I was in 5th grade during this season and I hope so badly that we can get back to those days. I'd love nothing more than to shut up the rest of the SEC for one offseason.

wow. just wow.

What, Lane Kiffin said out of his own and I quote " WHEN WE GOT TO USC IN 1999 TENNESSEE WAS IN EVERYBODY TOP FIVE. Todd Blackridge said " This team is loaded and so much talent that they should win 2 to 3 more title. Plain and and simple the sky was the limit and we never got off the ground.

For all the grief we all have given Phil, in the 90's he had Tennessee in position time after time. I didn't have much of a problem with the Phil of the 90's (except the Florida thing). It's the 2000's version i wasn't too fond of. Not many teams ever go back to back even with a boat load of talent. That funny shaped ball usually doesn't bounce your way enough two seasons in a row.

Really for me it wasnt what he didnt do it's what he did do. He became so consertive with his style of coaching that we as the years went by we just moreless became a door mat to the top teams in our conference. They got more and more aggresive and we just kept falling off.

Phil in his later years was guilty of playing favorites. He promoted from within, played the seniors even if the guy behind was better. In the end, the SEC outgrew him and his coaching style. Not enough turnover in his staff was probably his biggest downfall. He got complacent and it finally bit him.

There were a couple things that really jumped out about that 98 team. For one, after that catch in the Florida game where Peerless Price did his shake was just straight Pro. Those guys had like old school Miami kinda swagger and the other was Tee Martin's footwork. I remember watching him and thinking how good he was and all...but all these years later it really sticks out. Dude was just athletic as hell.
