Got to show development.......
For what ever reason this has not happened for a long time. Some will say Pruitt got some players devoloped. Like warrior and a few others. Butch took almost 2 top 5 classes and them players seemed to disappear on saturdays. Dooley well we know that story! But you gotta develop players.

We’re gonna lose again this season, but can we look good and lose? If we can be competitive in every game I think it will go a long way towards recruiting.

Heupel will have a team that can put a lot of points on the board, no question. Will the defense step up? I think we'll see entertaining games for sure, with probably several games exceeding combined 70+ points.

Butch put a lot of his best players in boots on the sidelines many seasons playing bull in the ring during practices.

Our defense may give up 70+ points to Bama, FL and GA without our offense even scoring.

The defense is going to really struggle the next couple of seasons. Hopeful that JH and Banks can get a defense that can bend but not break with today’s offensive schemes.

Did we really get that many four and five stars that other teams wanted? I know Bama wanted HT and a few of our Olinemen were heavily recruited by other major programs. Just wondering how many recruiting battles are we winning with other major programs.

When Fulmer was coach in the 90s Tennessee had many 4 and 5 star players. The truth is Tennessee should have won a lot more championships with those players. With better coaching especially on defense that would have happened.

I'm not so sure we do "lose" this season.

Outside of JG dramatically underperforming and terrible mismanagement of the offense, we weren't that bad last year. And the schedule this year is one of the easiest ones we've had in the last 20 years. If Heuple simply comes in and fixes the offense, it's not impossible to win 8 or 9 games. Not saying that will happen or that should be the "expectation"; but I don't think we're going 5-7 or 4-8 like so many others.

I'm more concerned about the long-term. How does all the drama this offseason impact recruiting? Will we get hit with sanctions? Has Tennessee's brand been damaged by over a decade of incompetence? I just don't know the answer to those questions. We're losing big recruiting battles right now, which sucks, but it's typically tough for new staffs to win those battles in Year 1, since they didn't have time to build relationships. So we'll probably have to wait till 2022 and 2023 to get a sense of where we are in recruiting.

Doom and gloom, agony on me..... Deep dark depression, excessive misery. If it weren't for a bad team we'd have no team at all, doom and gloom and agony on me. Climb out of your parent's basement and get a life, stop attaching your self worth to a bunch of 18 year old's and do something for yourself. Go out and do some volunteer work at a homeless shelter or a battered woman's shelter. Volunteer as a CASA for some abused or neglected kid. It'll take your mind off your football woes until fall. Doom and gloom, agony on me...... Deep dark depression, excessive misery. If it weren't for a bad team we'd have no team at all, doom and gloom, agony on me.

I agree . I don’t think we’re going to be that bad next year either. I probably should’ve been clearer about my expectations. My concerns are definitely with defensive side of the ball, especially since I feel like Henry T is gone.

I’m very skeptical and concerned that Heupel will not be able to recruit well enough to compete in the SEC as in just beating Kentucky and South Carolina’s of the world. I hope he and this coaching staff can coach up the 2 star and 3 star guys but we know that usually doesn’t cut it in this league to get where we wanna be. Going 5-7 will probaly be the high water mark over the next three years. The rebuilding never ends

Now we are having to get 3 stars and coach them up. Build it and they will come. Until then the proof is on the field

Fulmer created that "failed to develop" mantra in the early-mid 2000s as he settled into his arrogant paycheck collection mode. Sadly, that culture has remained, and we have ever since somehow managed to endlessly squander talented players that, in some cases, go on the set the NFL on fire. We need to arrest that, end that Fulmer "failed to develop" mantra, and start actually developing football players.

Wow. Good for you. Glad you got that off your chest. The irony is I believe you are taking this far more seriously than most in here just by virtue of that post.

Well, we paid recruits to come here, so there is that. I have no doubt that Fulmer and Jones did as well. Personally, I would prefer two and three stars that want to be here and play, give their all, than four and five stars that are just collecting a check and waiting to go to the league. Excluding UA, UGA, CU, and OSU, the rest of the nation is on the same level.
