We support Jon Crompton

2 coaching staffs in a row - one questionable and one just giving everyone a try have both shut him down. And your answer is....thanks CFP for leaving the stables dry once again. And don't give me that kid who left for UTC. He did NOT want to compete for the job. That does not work at TENNESSEE now. Unless you are EB, that does not work here now. Thank God.

And Fulmer is Fulmer. Kiffin is Kiffin.

All I am saying is if we are having to game plan around our quarterback -- rather than with our quarterback -- we are in serious trouble.

If the competition was that close in practice and Crompton can obviously not cut it, what do we have to lose in putting Stephens in? Stephens will be here next year. Crompton will not.

The rest of our games. Believe it or not, Crompton gives us the best chance to win. If he didn't, he wouldn't be playing. I can't believe you don't understand this. I'm perplexed.
Stephens isn't the best QB on the roster.
Next year, Stephens will likely still not be the best QB on the roster.

It's because he isn't good. His head is awful, just like Crompton's. He doesn't play because he doesn't have the ability of Crompton.

I want you to understand that I'm not calling Crompton great. I'm not even calling him good.
I'm calling him exactly what he is. He's the best we've got. Deal with it.

The fool fans to which I am referring must be more like you than I thought. I DO NOT approve of putting kids on Craigs List. I DO NOT approve of death threats against a college quarterback. Who the hell do you think you are. Go away. True TENNESSEE FANS will be there no matter what. Quit your belly-aching and yell GO BIG ORANGE or shut the f---- up and leave this board. I don't want you joining in when we are winning and acting like you have been there all along. You can thank CPF for the state he left us in and sitting on his haunches while the rest of the SEC passed us by. And as for my only having 2 posts - well my bad - I have read so many blogs and am VERY well informed but there comes a time when I just cannot keep my mouth shut. Everyone has to start somewhere and MY somewhere is NOW.
Lighten up Francis. Leave this board? Who the hell are you? You sound like freaking Pelosi calling anyone who disagrees with national healthcare they are "Nazis" and want to incite violence. I wish he wasn't as awful as he is. He's had so much opportunity that it's really becoming bizzare. He has digressed in four years. Nobody here wishes him ill.

I support JC, that is why I don't want him to be the starter. He is simply not SEC QB material. It isn't his fault, and he shouldn't be subjected to the ridicule he is getting. I place blame sqarely on the last staff for horribly miscalculating his talent.

They need to pull JC as the starter, and I say that because I wish the kid all the best.

Someone lost his mind. Kiffin put Crunkton in a position, that no way in hell my boy Crunkon could possibly screw up. However, he still managed to find ways to screw us up, 2 INT, 1 intentional grounding with no defender within 10 yards. Every time he throws, my hands shake.

Do I support him, NO WAY! Do we have better options? I doubt it. It is pointless to discuss if Crunkton is better Stevens. They are all the same, which has been proved. The problem is about the offensive system, which has been extremely unstable since Crunkton came to Tennessee.

I will trust our coaches in this one.

I agree. As long as he only runs the play called in i have faith. Just dont get any crazy ideas, on your own at least, and Oh... Have fun. On day you can tell the grandkids u played for the best team in the country! The University of Tennessee!!!

True.

But UCLA is UCLA. Wyoming is Wyoming.

And no. There is no way that Stephens is QB. Ask around. Nobody will ever say that Stephens would have started. The only way it's possible is if Crompton was the one injured.

to be fair, stephens wasn't the only reason we lost that game. fulmer had just gotten fired and the team was in shambles at that point. i'm not saying that stephens wasn't a main reason that we lost that game, because he was.......but anytime you lose to a team like wyoming there's more to the loss than just the qb play. the players just seemed to have no motivation at that point

Stephens can't be better, 2 different coach staffs both chose Crompton. I support him simply because I don't think we have anywhere else to turn this year. Off the record, Hardesty played like a BEAST today.

Agreed about Stephens. If he can't convince the staff that he is way better than Crompton in fall camp, then he IS NOT BETTER! Kiff said it, they were EVEN coming out of camp. This nutty thought that this staff is holding back to get a 5 star QB next year is stupid. This staff wants to win NOW!

Kiffin showed he cannot trust Crompton throwing the ball when he runs the ball with downs and distance. (Refering to the series after the inerception.) If we would have had a QB, we would have won this game.

ONCE AGAIN THE DEFENSE PLAYED WELL ENOUGH TO WIN. I HOPE WE RECRUIT MORE QBs AND LINEMEN!

Are there any 3rd-string rookie QBs out there sitting on benches at D-1 schools that are better than Crompton/Stevens that we could entice to K-town?

I feel bad for Crompton... and here's why: I believe he does have talent, but the last staff really basically ruined him. He plays like he does because, honestly he is a freshman in experience thrust into a senior's body. Unfortunately, no matter how you shake it, he is going to graduate this year. That is my only reason for wondering if we shouldn't throw Stephens in, just to let him grow into the position so we have an option next year. I mean Bray could be the answer, but what if (God Forbid) something unforeseeable happens in the first game next year and he is injured? I don't think putting Stephens in will all of a sudden solve all our problems. If that were the case we would have seen him three weeks ago. However, if I'm gonna watch a guy "grow and develop," I'd fee much better if it were a guy that was actually going to be here the following year.

As far as the He did what he was asked to do... Yes, he did, but you have got to understand. They are GREATLY scaling back the passing game of this offense because of his complete lack of skill in his position. This is an offense that passes sometimes up to 50 and 60 times a game, and they passed not even 20 yesterday. I don't hate the guy, in fact I do support him. I don't think he's stupid, or a jerk, or should be belittled. However, I don't think he should be on the field, because no matter how you shake it or where the blame should end, he is a lost cause. And I think for that fact alone, him staying as starter this year is a waste of time.

get me off here little boy... F##kin sissy !!!!!

Agreed. Crompton did fine. He is a talent that needs a bit of support right now. His confidence is shaken.

He did fine? there are 8 guys on the team that could make every throw he made today. It took him a few tries to even get his screen passes down to where the back could actually do something with it. I agree it's all in his head, but is it going to get better?

most ignorant statement of the season!

did fine? yeah ok, what are you his mom? he is a talent that needs support? grow up, he is playing big time football and has not shown he can hack it. he has no confidence in himself which no fan or coach can instill that back in him, he must do that himself. do we have any other options, yes, but they are obviously no better than #8.
Cmon Tyler Bray the job is yours!!

I think Crompton played well and much better than against UCLA. NO, I am not being sarcastic!

passes, about 8 of which were swing passes to backs--real tough. Out of 12 passes, he threw 2 picks. We hardly threw a pass downfield the whole game because Kiffin doesn't have any confidence in Kiffin or the passing game. Sorry, dude, that's a bad thing. The guy is a fifth-year senior! Oh, yea, and we lost. Anybody who thinks crompton's play is acceptable because he did not have an emotional breakdown on the field or somesuch should move to a diddlywinks board, seriously. We've probably got the worst qb in div. 1 football. Why kiffin keeps playing the guy is a mystery. We only kept it close because the defense played extremely well, because we ran the ball fairly well and because florida doesn't look all that good to me offensively this year.

Doubtful.
How many TDs did WKU's QB throw against us?

Crompton has completed 49 of 77 passes with 5 TD's and 7 INTs this season. You think he is doing better??? He is on coarse to have 25-30 INTs this year! Stevens must be even worse - why else would he not be in by now?? I feel that we are progressing in almost every position except QB. With a somewhat average QB we would be 3-0 right now. Maybe by some miracle he will pull his head out of his butt and get better.....Go Vols!

I think he did fine because he accomplished what CLK wanted him to accomplish...with the exception of the pick. The way I see it, he did much better against #1 Florida than he did against unranked UCLA. Was he good? Of course not. But again, CLK called the shots and JC did what was asked. The first step to improvement is getting the QB doing what the coach wants. Next time, they can take a few more chances. It takes a while for a QB to get good enough to read defenses then change the play and call audibles at the line in big games the way PManning did so often.

I haven't seen any tape and I wonder how wide open our receivers were for JC. Anyone know if they were, indeed, getting open for him?

I feel bad for our fans that are saying Crompton did ok or fine. We have gotten so use to seeing horrible QB play for our last 15 games that a 11-19 93 yds and 2 INT day with no TD's is a good day? Crompton is horrible. Period. He is the worst QB to ever start a game for Tennessee. I'm sorry you guys he really is. He'll probably do decent vs. Ohio but he'll be back to normal against Auburn. The kid cant cut it. Its not his fault he works his butt off, he just is not good.
