We still have a shot at playoffs!

Le'see, le'see... Standing between the Vols and the SEC CG is UF. UF still has to play UGA at WLOCP, @Arkansas, SoCar, and @LSU. It is likely that they'll lose one of those.

On the other hand, Tennessee plays @SoCar, UK, Mizzou, and @Vandy. It is likely that they'll win those games (YES, even with their currently available roster of players).

So, if Tennessee plays in the SEC CG and somehow manages to defeat the SECw team, THEN, it is likely that the Vols will get consideration for inclusion in the playoff. An 11-2 Team 120 coming off an upset victory in the SEC CG is hot and has demonstrated the right stuff at just the right moment. In addition, the Vols strength of schedule should exceed that of 2 or more of the P5 champions.

At this moment in time, there is a chance that Tennessee could be among the CFP foursome. Until it is mathematically impossible, I will cheer on the Vols game by game with that in the back if my mind.

It's been years since a 2 loss team was in the top 4. Years ago, probably in the 70's or 80's UT played Oklahoma, both too 4 teams, I believe. Vols had 1 loss and OU had 2. Not sure who the other two teams were. Believe it was in the Orange Bowl. Vols lost 26-24.

There is a slim chance, but that chance is still there. If Bama beats A&M but loses to LSU or Auburn or really anybody but A&M and we beat them too in the SEC Championship the committee will put us in the playoffs no doubt

Loooooooonnnnnngggggg ssssllllloooowww death of this thread.

I give it till Saturday. Then in the 29 it will come roaring back after we beat a team that isnt going to a bowl.

Sound like your wanting it to die! I want my VOLS TO BELEIVE ! ? If I told you that you have no shot at greatness, would you expect that and give up or would you hope and fight for it?

Wait, what? You think if we beat a 1 loss Alabama we get in with 2 losses? That's even less likely.

The odds are seriously stacked against the Vols making the playoffs, are the Vols a contender or a pretender, next 5 games will determine :clapping:

I want the Vols to believe too. Believe they can go 10-2 and bank a win in a solid bowl. What an achievement for this senior class!

As for the playoffs, you do understand that these are not idiots right? Most of them stopped believing in Santa and the tooth fairy at around age 8.

To the senior class; Thank you, you have brought UT back to relevance and will pass your legacies to the younger guys. You came here with no leadership on the team and have busted your butts and overcame alot of adversity to make our team respectable. The possibiity of 2 straight double digit win seasons. 3 straight solid bowls. The future is bright and you all laid the framework, THANK YOU, now lets go win these next 5.

And yes, the sooner stupidity dies, the better.

I just crunched the numbers. Alabama is winning by an average of 30 points per game. Assuming that average holds and they are 12-0 heading into Atlanta....

There is no way a loss by a fg to Tennessee would knock Bama out and put Tennessee in.

I don't see how that would be possible

I actually think if that happens both Tennessee and Alabama make the playoffs.

The SEC champ will always get in. And if Tennessee wins the SEC they'll be in.

Alabama at 12-1 non-champ also will get in. I personally think the Pac 12 and Big 12 get left out.

Yeah this weekend showed me we are at least 2 or 3 years out from playoff contention. We need some ball players at LB and more consistency on offense.

What?

This weekend showed our 3rd string isn't playoff material. However, a fully healthy Tennessee team can beat Alabama.

What you saw Saturday was just a shell of a team.

1 loss Pac12, Big12, Big 10 and ACC Champs all get in over a 2 loss SEC champ Tennessee. We would need a whole lotta help to get in no matter what.

Disagree.

2 loss SEC champ Tennessee that just 12-0 #1 Alabama gets in over a 1 loss Big 12 champ or a 1 loss Pac 12 champ.

Both those conferences are weak. And no team in those conferences would have a more impressive win than Tennessee.

No we don't. A two loss team won't be in it.

How come?

You think there will be 4 other undefeated or 1-loss conference champions?

You do know the last couple of years have been outliers. 2 loss conference champions are actually the norm. Its very rare for there to be 4 undefeated or 1-loss conference champions.

I bet this year we have 2-3 conference champions with 2 losses.

I think USC can win the Pac 12 with 3 losses already.

I think Oklahoma can win the Big 12 with 2 losses already.

Those are the 2 most talented teams in those conferences.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I am also confused about something.

I keep seeing "when Tennessee gets healthy".....I thought a lot of these injuries were season ending. If that's the case, getting healthy ain't gonna happen.

Am I wrong? How many of these guys are expected back?

How many games did OSU lose in 2014? When did said loss happen?

You've already backtracked from this once, so I await you doing so again.

Losing by 14 at home to a 6-6 Virginia Tech team is a lot worse than losing twice one in double OT to a top 10 A&M team and the other being by 39 to the #1 team in the country while missing 14-17 key players.

Only JRM and McKenzie are done for the season.

Cam Sutton, Darrin Kirkland Jr., Alvin Kamara (as of this moment), and all the other guys that are dinged up are supposed to be back by the SEC championship game.
