Agreed.........he does a year or 2 and then jumps ship for the next place when they realize he's not cutting the mustard.

I just don't think we have good athletes on defense. UT just wasnt recruiting at a high level when we got these guys and they are the best we can do at the moment. the freshman on campus and players coming in will be an upgrade in general.

Um Beasley has improved a lot. Baron, Big O, Slaughter, and a few others. I understand we lost, but to say no one has improved is a lie.

That's another issue. Maybe there's no good depth behind him. I would love to see Lally and Slaughter as the starting corners.

Everyone keeps throwing Martinez in there. Position coaches teach technique. He had nothing to do with Banks' choice to play so soft against UF in the first half or to make no adjustments until half. He doesn't call the plays. He just teaches guys how they're supposed to play the position.

I haven't bought in on Banks from the start. I just didn't see signs that he was getting the most out of his unit. I heard the same old tired excuses used for Jones, Dooley, Pruitt, et al... "you have to wait until he gets more talent". Great coaches make their talent better than the sum of its players. Just not seeing that from Banks.

I’m fine with giving guys time and all that but at a certain point you have to evaluate the product on the field and it isn’t impressive.

A quality DC would have to make that call.

Are you really going to make a blanket accusation based on those two underthrown balls vs APSU by one guy? BTW, position coaches don't have the final say on who plays either.

I think we definitely have room to get more athletic on the back end, but there are plenty of teams with guys who graded out lower as recruits but perform much better on the field. We need to be faster on the back end but the soft tackling, arm tackles, and what we’ve seen with DBs trying to rip the ball away rather than wrapping up is technique and hunger, not just a lack of athleticism

If Hadden had those issues prior to college, then I blame the coach who offered the scholarship. Some bad habits never change and tacking is taught at in pee wee.

Hyatt and Tillman both improved under this staff as well. West,Pearce and Joseph’s are improving as well. O-Line is where we need to see some development.

And that reflects back to who is coaching them. Seems to me Willie coaches soft D and too not turn to make plays on the ball even when your in position. We play off receivers and never get up physical or try to jump routes. It’s hard to get interceptions that way. We got the talent to rush the passer but if the secondary is marshmallow the quarterback gets bailed out by being able to make a quick throw. We are just playing too vanilla on the back end. We have to be more aggressive and take some chances. There was no reason to play soft against Florida. GBO
