We Should Be Embarrassed

I think the administration should be embarassed for letting something as well established as UT football fall into the dumps.

Yep we should be better. Ask Nebraska, Florida State, and maybe even Penn State if they are embarrassed of their performance compared to the past.:ermm:

Your not too wise of a vol

You said we fired a coach who has a good record against bama and then you point out our crappy record for this decade. You do realize that it was the coaches fault who had a good record against bama. Fulmer was a great coach in his prime but it was time for him to go.

:eek:k::good!:
THE SETUP

In 85 years of UT football after the arrival of Gen. Neyland, only Oklahoma has won more games. [We were tied (623) going into 2010.]

UT (49) is now tied 2nd with Texas all-time in bowl appearances. [Ahead of USC (48 and holding).]

Against Alabama, we've played (92) and won (37 + 8 ties) more games than anyone. [That's right, Auburn.]

We're 9th in all time wins. [Ahead of USC (10th)] [Florida is 23rd.]

UT produced the best and highest paid QB in NFL history. [By the numbers, PManning will hold all the records when he's done.]

We recently fired a Head Coach who's record vs. Alabama was 10-5-1. [Who does that?]

THE ISSUE

Since 2005 (6 seasons) UT's program has been wandering in the wilderness. And from Bristol CT to Gainesville to Columbia to other 1-horse towns, people whose historical contribution to college football is relatively minor, have joined the bandwagon trumpeting UT's demise. And UT's coaching and NCAA issues have added fuel to the blaze.

THANK YOU FOR THE CRITICISM

UT is 42-34 (.552) during this 6-year period. Is this really bad? In Tennessee's historical context, yes.

All-time, UT has a .668 winning percentage. [Alabama is .673; Florida is .613.] By UT's own standards, we're in one of the few long troughs we've suffered since fielding a team in 1891.

UT should be and is embarrassed. [Disregard us at your peril.]

Many of the Johnny Major's years were lean years also.
1977 (4-7-0) 1978 (5-5-1) 1979 (7-5-0) 1980 (5-6-0)
1981 (8-4-0) 1982 (6-5-1) 1983 (9-3-0) 1984 (7-4-1)
1985 (9-1-2) 1986 (7-7-0) 1987 (10-2-1) 1988(5-6-0)
1989 (11-1-0) 1990 (9-2-2) 1991 (9-3-0)

In 15 seasons, Major's had 4 losing seasons and two500 seasons. This college football thing goes in cycles.
Penn State was up,then they hit the low areas and now they are trying to re-bound. Bama was up for a while and then they hit a down period and for the time period, and now they seem to be returning again.

When a team is not doing very well, they need to get
several great recruiting classes. A good coach can sell a program to recruits. Once the roster gets full and the
coach is not able to sell the fact of early playing time, then the top recruits will go to other schools. Once several classes leave for the NFL, the team will then hit
a low area and will need to re-build.
Take Miami for instance, they sold early playing time as a recruiting tool. Once the rosters were full, they won alot of games in a 4 year period. Once all of Butch Davis's recruiting classes graduated, Larry Coker had one year of winning, then the team no longer had experienced players. When Miami's rosters were full, the up and coming recruits began going to Florida and then Florida began to win alot of games.
We are currently in the re-building stage. We need to win a BIG game this season to sell the program more.
A big, signature win against someone we are expected to lose to will help us ALOT. A win such as the Sugar Bowl win against Miami!!!!

Mohamed Ali was arguably the best there ever was. Given your theory that one stays at the top of their game forever, he should still be in the ring. So what happened to Farve? Times change, the game has changed, get over it and get on with your life.

We should be embarrassed that we gave Failmer a second chance thinking he could turn it around after he threw up 5-6 with a Top 3 preseason team. He was never again going to have a team with that much talent.

It's been 18 months. Way past time to move on.

Look familiar Sam? Should, you wrote it.
