combine results are not as big for DB's as others because its a position group where everyone is pretty much an elite athlete. A bad combine will tank you to move the needle at the combine a DB has to do some otherworldly stuff.. I dont think McCoy will do that hes a really good athlete which is why he started at oregon state in the first place. He is across the board a 90th percentile athlete not 99th

I think Josephs and Heard are the guys in day 1 conversations. Brazell and Mccoy have injury histories. and not a lot of tape. The name people are slipping on is Colton Hood.

I just did a google search and it’s never happened. So it would behoove Mr McCoy to come back this year if he’s at all able

Chase Young did not - he played the mandatory 3yrs at tOSU.

Micah Parsons did though, but his third year was the Covid year (2020) and he chose to sit out.
By that time he had already won the Butkus award, made history by leading Penn St in tackles as a Freshman, named an All-American, and Cotton Bowl MVP.

So while my statement that it has never happened is technically not correct, McCoy isn't on that level...sorry.

McCoy is only a 1st rounder / early 2nd rounder because the draft isn't going to be crazy strong this year.
It's one of those years you'll see a lot of teams take OL and DL in the 1st and 2nd to bolster depth.

He won’t be a first round pick if he sits out in my opinion. If he returns and balls out / shows he is the same player and even better . . . He is likely a first rounder.

If he doesn’t play this year . . . I think at BEST he is a late second rounder and likely a third rounder. JMO. I admit it ms hard to predict.

I agree it’s really dependent on us winning a lot more but if Brazzell finishes with 1200+ and 15 tds it will be tough to keep him out of the first in this class… long way to go for sure and it is unlikely but possible… if heard keeps it up he will go as high as Darnell… I think heard is more violent and nasty than Darnell too.. I really wish we had McCoy healthy with the way hood is playing that would be a filthy duo and trio with Ricky if he was healthy.

I expect all of them to be first rounders IF McCoy comes back to play. If he chooses to to sit out when he’s cleared it will hurt his stock and he will fall to later rounds imo. CBII has to keep balling though, he had one monster game, gotta prove he can be consistent throughout the season. I’d be shocked if Joseph’s and a much improved Heard drop out of the first. They are studs

Side note. Joey may play himself into a late round draft pick. He will never be a early off the board guy just because of his age and intangibles but if he does sneak into the draft, CJH would have 3 drafted QBs in 5 years. Impressive.

When we routinely were top 5 on NFL rosters(opening day), we never had 4 players drafted in the first round. From about 1989 through 2005, UT players dominated NFL rosters. Many years were top 2-3

I think he said it wasn't about Covid, but that his agent assured him he'd be a high 1st rounder and it was best to avoid any injury risk.

Oh yeah, had forgot about Ja'Marr.
While it was the Covid year, I believe I do recall he opted out that year after LSU's Natty based on what he already had on film and agent / analysts opinions.

Couple of things in his situation though. One is he was a major contributor to his team just going undefeated and winning a National Title. Second he had just set several SEC and national record as well as being named the top receiver in the game. Also, it didn't hurt that he was drafted by the Bengals where he was reunited with the QB that helped him to set all those records.

In short, it comes down to talent, exposure, and situation.
Does McCoy have the talent to be a 1st round pick - YES
Does he have enough 'exposure', or game film - Likely Yes
Will he the situation in his favor come draft day - remains to be seen...will there be a team with a heavy need at CB that will trust he has healed from the ACL?

I cant say McCoy isn't on that level because he was looked at nationally as the top CB in this draft. He was named a preseason All-American with the injury. I think if you are a top CB in the SEC its likely that you go high in the draft. Now, Young was a different level but Micah was only considered a top 15 pick. People said Dallas reached for an off-ball LB. Randy Gregory & Demarcus Lawrence had to get injured for the world to find out Micah was a generational pass rusher.

McCoy has 2 full seasons of tape. He was a freshman All-American and a preseason All-American this year. There is film of him vs some top tier WR's. What is Brazzell's injury history that would affect his draft status?? I dont believe Brazzell is a 1st rounder without a monster season and combine similar to Hyatt. Joesphs is the longest shot of the 4. Pearce was a freak of nature and he almost fell out the first round. Byron Young put up big numbers before him, was also a physical freak of nature and went in the 3rd.
