We played 3 championship weekend teams

Yes, I know, we lost all 3. And I wouldn’t ever want to play in any other league. But wouldn’t it be cool to imagine playing Maryland Illinois and Indiana instead?
Also played against what many would say are the 3 best QB's in the country (Pitt, Bama and Ole Miss).

Be careful with the lower your standards statement. I've already stated a lot of UT fans and posters here are perfectly fine with MORAL victories against the big 3 and I have been scrutinized tremendously for it. But to answer your question there would be plenty of people here be just fine moving to a different conference. It's a hell no for me.

Get over yourself. No one is ever happy with losing but they can but they can put it in context of where the program vs the state of the opponent’s program and be happy about the progress being made. That doesn’t mean they are celebrating “moral victories”.

SEC has only 3 AAU schools, Texas A&M, Florida and Vandy
There are a ton of good schools in the B1G. I’m sure Harbaugh will tell us all about in the next few weeks. . I’m just saying that the B1G likes to throw the AAU stuff around, but it’s not like they’re turning guys away left and right because of their academic standards.

So he ate crow and came back to get his degree?

I can’t hate on a man getting an education.
I don’t hate on him getting his degree at all. Good for him . I think his tweet makes you wonder how difficult it was to earn his degree . UNC was another great AAU school pumping out degrees through its Afro-American Studies program.

3 Championship teams this year.. hell, in years past we have played 3 of the 4 teams in the playoffs. I think we are the only team to have played 3 of the 4 playoff teams.

Tennessee year and year out will and should have the toughest schedule in the country., once success happens, it will happen quick. We go undefeated, we will be in the playoffs with a good chance of winning. We have one loss and we still have a good chance at a playoff and another shot at the number 1 team (probably in the country)

Gone are the days of the 70's, 80's and 90'sgoing undefeated and waiting on some overrated big 10 team to get beat by southwest mayonnaise state just for a chance at a title.

Playing the toughest schedule in the country has its advantages, as long as you win!!

We are way better this year than I ever expected. The future of Tennessee Football looks exciting!

You should read some of the game threads....

I’m just curious to what rock have you’ve been hiding under? Where have you been and not understand what has transpired in the last year? Yes it was all about depth issues and new systems and (AT) Florida ! Everything was completely NEW ! You name it everything NEW ! Do you expect a team to gel as if they’ve been in the system for years.? I agree there’s somethings on decision making...in my opinion that needs rethinking.
We had enough depth to get our SIGNATURE Kentucky win but not a s__t Florida team? You guys play the depth card all too much. Depth to stick with Bama for 3 full quarters, but not a s___t Florida team? You guys basically call the players scrubs everyday.

I remember plenty of people saying Pitt wasn’t a good team. Turns out they aren’t so bad. We still should’ve won.

Regardless of them managing to make it to the ACC championship in a very weak division and win, they played us very poorly. Had we prepared and started Hooker, we'd have won that game handily.

That loss is on Heupel's desire for Milton to be a better QB than he actually is.

Kentucky went 9-3, that's not your Daddy's UK team. Too many people live off past perceptions of teams rather than look at the match ups in games between the current players & coaches. People were counting Pitt as an easy win too, they supposedly sucked because of the name on their jerseys. No doubt some younger players and CFB fans who weren't alive to see the Fulmer years think UT is an also ran as well. Things change. We took a step in the right direction this year. Anyone who can't see that is blind.
Kentucky will always be beneath tennessee in football and with better play calling in the pitt game it would have been a win.

Maybe we win if Hooker starts. Remember he only missed about a quarter and a half and he made some of those mistakes we made too. I tend to agree we likely win but it isn’t a guarantee. And yes Heupel started with Milton but if Milton hit those deep balls in games then Hooker never sees the field. Word is that Milton hit them in practice so I think it speaks well of Heupel that he adjusted so quickly given Hooker played from mid-way through the second game through the rest of the year.

I’m not you guys I’m a realist. It is what it is...nothing’s gonna change that until....#1 A full roster of players that these coaches need to run there systems #2 Depth....to have the quality depth to rest your starters...That sir is the object of the game to be rested to FINISH!!! Going back to the start of this year is just being ridiculous. They were nowhere near the team that got better and better to the end. It’s in the body of work and playing together. Becoming a team that’s still thin and can’t keep up with the teams that have Quality DEPTH. Okay I’m gonna bite...1) beginning of the year we were where we were as a team 2) Florida has had there STAFF for sometime as a unit and recruiting 3) At Florida Hot as Hell and trying to figure out your players including the offensive line. 4) Get over it !!!!! I hate it to but it’s over and it’s getting better. Give them time to recruit ! DEPTH DEPTH DEPTH !

Exactly. But some people here are satisfied with mediocrity. I never in my lifetime thought I would see the day that beating Kentucky in a game of football was the mark of a good season. But most people on here strongly disagree with me. My argument is no matter how you spin it a 25 point loss is still a 25 point loss no matter if it came over the course of 4 quarters or in the 4th quarter alone.

And some people who didnt get the shiny coach they expected refuse to recognize any progress made.

So keep pretending you have a higher standard than others if it makes you feel.special. But no one is settling for mediocrity long term...and should the Josh Heupel led Vols still be taking 25point beatdowns in 2024 then many of us pointing out progress in 2021 will be ready to start demanding something change. However refusimg to see the very obvious improvement is simply being willfully blimd.

A lot of people in here don't remember anything before the last part of the 90's. Some of us remember the 70's and 80's. It was never as bad as it got with Gump and Lyle, but it was bad. I'd rather lose a few times to top teams, because when it does come back around -- and it will come back around -- it will be a wonder to behold.

Damn millennials - they wouldn't know a good football team if it dropped on their heads.
They sure don't understand Tennessee Football or what a genuinely good Vols team l/

Very few remember or are aware of the 50's when Tennessee had the best record in the country for the decade, or the 60's when Doug Dickey was building a monster that had already won 2 SEC titles and produced two Top-5 final national rankings in four years before the blunder he made returning to his alma mater Florida in 1969 or the mid/late 80's when Coach Majors finally got the program built back up after Bill Battle's disastrous tenure of the mid-70's. All Coach Majors did was win 3 SEC titles and produce 2 top-5 national rankings within a six season span.

CJH isn’t building a program to lose to Georgia and Bama every year. He’s building teams who believe they can defeat any team on the schedule and strive to do so with every second on the clock. That’s why he’s the right coach right now.
