yes i know a lot of you think im crazy for saying this...yes we have been to a lot of bowl games but how many national championships have we have we won in the last 30 years? 1. 50 years? 2...so we never have been in the mix, we have always settled for conference championship games..and the way its looking for bama, georgia, and florida, and hell even vandy..its going to be a long few years still for us. we will be lucky to have a winning season this year. granted ill bleed orange till i die but with a coach that let the game fly by him and the lack of discipline on the team we cant do anything. sure, blame it on crompton..3 games in for a quarterback that sat backseat to a nobody for the past few years..crompton is a better all around athlete than ainge ever was. its not cromptons fault we lost, yeah he made a few mistakes but who isnt against florida these days. but take a step back and think..we were ever a powerhouse like bama, norte dame, usc, michigan, oklahoma in the past 30 or 40 years..no..no where close to level that those schools can play on. go ahead flame me i just speak the facts. i just want to wear my orange and be proud of it like i used to be..its sad what this program has turned in to.

Really, so 6 national championships, 13 SEC championships, being only 1 of 10 programs with 800 wins, only trailing Alabama in wins, and having one of the 5 greatest coaches of all time in the General himself means we're middle of the pack.

edit: aww, the funny part got edited out

UT was good, but not lately. I don't think people realize how many overrated players we have starting, and people think they are good. Look at our two starting LBs. They are finally starting as seniors? (and one is a fifth yr) what does that tell you. Look at our two starting DEs (one senior, one junior) they couldn't even start over Reynolds and Mitchell, and they were nothing special. In the past alot of the good players were sophmores and juniors. These guys couldn't even crack the starting line-up in their first four years? You guys have got to see that. I remember when they ask other players on the team in the spring, how good is Middle Linebacker going to be in the middle. Every one says he would be great? What do you think the others players are going to say? He would be bad. He may make alot of tackles, but he is suppose too. He's in the middle of the field. Though our coaches stink, we are lacking great players.

Alright then we can just keep our hasbeen coach. We were never any good anyway. Glad you could clear that up for me.
As far the the no talent angle. We have enough talent to at least be competitive in our rival games.

Just another last ditch effort by the Fulmer supporters. If only they can quickly lower all our expectations all will be well. I hope these rubes go back to rooting for Bama when the Vols have a new coach.

I understand that you cannot win them all. After all it is is a tuff league, but we have not been competive in a long time. Our games against top ten teams are usually over in the first quarter, if not before the KO.:cray:

I would expect us to be in the game in the 4th quarter. I am almost sure we our in the top ten, as far as financial support going to a team. We should always be in the top 20. If not, somebody is not performing. We should get what we pay for...a good team.

Yes and that is the most inexcusable thing about it. We just look lost out there. It's really sad.

I like this stupidity. You say Tennessee doesn't have National title tradition because they havn't been there in the past 20 years? How about when the General was walking the sidelines? How about when we wont the first BCS, and your your crazy if you think Florida somehow has more winning tradition than us. They weren't good untill Spurrier. We havnt been good for 7 years, that doesn't mean we arn't one of the best programs in college football. Alabama hasn't been good for about 15 years.....They must be the WORST program ever in cfb history right?

Tennessee does not have 6 national titles. Tennessee has 3 or so. Let's not take a page from the bammers and start making up titles.

You're in the 10th grade... right?

To maintain Tennessee was never a big time national football program is rediculous. Pay attention here. An earlier post on this thread correctly points out that Bama hasn't made much noise in the past decade or so. Nevertheless, whenever a team beats Bama (and it happened a lot the past decade), it's cause for great celebration on their part. Their team beat not just a Bama football team but also a football tradition. And so it is with Tennessee. Whenever a team beats Tennessee, they beat a national football program steeped in tradition. And they're proud of it. Doesn't matter if Tennessee finishes the year 2-10, every team that beats Tennessee will be especially proud of that win. It's because of the tradition.

When you get older, you'll understand how tradition plays into the mix for real, long-term fans.

By the way, hope y'all beat Auburn this weekend.

Well, coming from a Gator fan, who does not recognize history, I'd say you're correct.

These are allegedly amateur athletes who do not get paid. Allegedly. Financial support gets you top of the line athletic facilities and equipment, not talent. It should get you top coaching as well.

I'm a big fan of college football history, but if that's where you're content to stay, good luck to you. I prefer my team to try and make some history every year, not dwell on 7 SEC Championships (8 apperarances) and 2 MNC (3 appearances) in the last 16 yrs. That's all great, but let's try to win NOW!!! By the way, what's the history on our series now history buff?

That's my point, you guys dominated us in the leather helmet days, but since you're into history, haven't we won something like 17 of the last 21?

Leather helmet days? Damn, didn't know we were rivals in 1930. I could have sworn we whooped your ass up and down the field back in the 80's and early 90's.

You should brush up on your history before running your mouth nick, we played only 2 times in the 80's (we won both) and since you like history we'll go back to the 70's. Since 1976 UF is 17-6 against the Vols, class dismissed!! :p:p
