The old days of power conferences and traditional schools getting all the top recruits has passed. All schools have money and players want starting spots that pay starting wages. The talent is now spreading out and increased competition across the board in all sports. Prairie View can field a top team if they have the cash.
SEC no longer the top conference
Traditional SEC powerhouses fall back and overall parity increases
Top Big Ten/ Southwest teams, not all, bulk up to top 10 status
This playing field evolution will continue

Kim Caldwell is the only coach of the BB and FB coaches he has hired,but I agree so far she is not cutting the mustard. Baseball coach is a give it time decision to me.

Rumor has it we simply don’t have the boosters to be able to compete against the perennial powers for national titles anymore, so the Vandy game may become our Super Bowl. Sad, if true.

According to some on this site, given our lack of big booster commitments to secure the talent we need to be competitive, it will be us, Vandy, Kentucky, and Arkansas vying for the bottom rung of the SEC ladder.

Well, they did have the best FB team they’ve had in our lifetimes this past year & appear to have their Basketball program fixed. They’re not the easy win anymore.

When I first read this I was thinking this.
We need to get the quality athletes from our state to want to come to UT we are losing a lot of elite ones in all sporting arenas.

That's a bit much. In football, they had a one off year with a generational QB and one of the oldest rosters in the country. Even with a very favorable SEC schedule, it would be surprising to see them make a bowl game this year.

In basketball, it's all dependent on how far you go in the tourney. I don't really care that they had the better regular season. If they go further than us in the tourney, then I'll be upset.

They aren't better than us in baseball right now.

Facts.

Vandy will always be an afterthought. Its in their feminine nature. They consider sucking at sports to be normal, and expected.

They do have a good football coach now. Their program is still crap though. They probably wont be a true doormat while this current coach is there, but Vandy is still gonna Vandy.

I just happened to pick up a copy of KNS the other day. I bought it for the sudoku and crossword mainly, but once I put my pen aside, I browsed the sports section.

Now I guess I still need to let the fact that KNS is now part of the USA Today network of newspapers sink in.. And that that Nashville based bunch is too. And if that day's KNS has an extra bit of space to fill, they are going to use it somehow.

But still, they include an article about Vanderbilt right in the pages of a Knoxville paper. And in my experience, knowing someone who proudly walks the streets of Knoxville, or any other East Tennessee town sporting Vanderbilt gear? Kinda like spotting a great white shark by our local bass fisherman. They would have been better off, and would have delighted me no end had they just slapped in two or three old Far Side cartoons that I had not seen in a few years.

I don't follow Vanderbilt. I don't even here and there like Vanderbilt. When they win, or lose? I don't need to know. And I still have no idea why some jughead in Nashville thinks I should. Guess they still hope that the Vols and Commode Hoes should create their own version of the Egg Bowl or the Iron Bowl. And it will mean something. Only really good thing about that is avoiding the foul taste in our mouths when the Vols lose over the rest of the year. For now? Just doing my best to ignore it.

We lost in football and 2 of 3 in basketball....but they're home and we're not. So we win.

And their baseball team is having a terrible year for them. So I don't think they win there.

They did beat the Lady Vols in basketball but who didn't?

They don't even have a softball team.

So screw Vandy. Let's see how they do without midget Manziel next season.

Vanderbilt was #8 in the country for returning experience last year. They will be like 100th this coming season. We will crush them. Lea is a good coach but Vandy gets spanked this coming year.
