We need to take back our state

The bar isn't high. When we start getting upended by Chatt, ETSU, TTU, Mem, MTSU I will throw in my towel and catch up on GT. I do expect Vandy to bow up occasionally in football as long as it's not habit forming. By nature of the sports, I also expect Vandy to be more consistently competitive with UT in BB and Baseball. The parity in recruiting players for those two sports is more equal accross many different sized schools. Even TnTech knocks off UT in baseball on occasion. Twice in the last 3-4 years IIRC.

In fairness to TnTech, Bragga basically set them back a decade when he thought going to Rice would be fruitful after he took Tech to a few appearances and as deep as the Supers against Texas and gave them a run for their money in 3 games. He has since returned to Tech, but has yet in 3 years now maybe to even show a glimpse of where he had them before.

That's a bit much. In football, they had a one off year with a generational QB and one of the oldest rosters in the country. Even with a very favorable SEC schedule, it would be surprising to see them make a bowl game this year.

In basketball, it's all dependent on how far you go in the tourney. I don't really care that they had the better regular season. If they go further than us in the tourney, then I'll be upset.

They aren't better than us in baseball right now.
I'll just point out that calling Pavia a "generational QB" made me laugh out loud. Not hardly. A good QB, a playmaking QB, but generational?

He's not even the best QB Vanderbilt has ever had. Not in the top 3 in my lifetime
Exactly, calling Pavia "generational" just because they beat us is a biiiiiiiiiig stretch for a guy who will go very late in the draft or possibly even be undrafted.

I can hear the "yeah, but Brady went in round 6 or something" crowd firing up their fingers but no one was calling Brady "generational" back then.

We need to run off the Californians and fix Memphis before we worry about Vandy. 🤐
Crime rates have been declining significantly in Memphis. As for getting rid of Californians, just ban kale and electric cars.

I just happened to pick up a copy of KNS the other day. I bought it for the sudoku and crossword mainly, but once I put my pen aside, I browsed the sports section.

Now I guess I still need to let the fact that KNS is now part of the USA Today network of newspapers sink in.. And that that Nashville based bunch is too. And if that day's KNS has an extra bit of space to fill, they are going to use it somehow.

But still, they include an article about Vanderbilt right in the pages of a Knoxville paper. And in my experience, knowing someone who proudly walks the streets of Knoxville, or any other East Tennessee town sporting Vanderbilt gear? Kinda like spotting a great white shark by our local bass fisherman. They would have been better off, and would have delighted me no end had they just slapped in two or three old Far Side cartoons that I had not seen in a few years.

I don't follow Vanderbilt. I don't even here and there like Vanderbilt. When they win, or lose? I don't need to know. And I still have no idea why some jughead in Nashville thinks I should. Guess they still hope that the Vols and Commode Hoes should create their own version of the Egg Bowl or the Iron Bowl. And it will mean something. Only really good thing about that is avoiding the foul taste in our mouths when the Vols lose over the rest of the year. For now? Just doing my best to ignore it.

I live near Nashville and actually know Vandy fans... 2026 was a great year for them. Their bowl game loss did tone things down some... however.

This is why just quoting statistics is an easy way to misrepresent things. Crime rates are way down in Detroit also.

Ya know why? People are leaving. It's the same with Memphis.

Crime per capita is a much better measure of how dangerous Memphis still is.

You’ve got my vote. I don’t know if I trust the reports, but hopefully it’s working.
