Let's throw around 1.5 million to Jim Leavitt. It will be over
4x what he is making. That program has only been in existence since 1997. MARK THIS DOWN............SOUTH FLORIDA WILL RUN THE TABLE!

It would be nice, but he's turned down Bama and Miami because he said he wanted to build USF into a powerhouse

Alabama thought the same thing. He turned them down. He sees himself as the New Age Bobby Bowden in Florida. He's not going anywhere.

Let's say for a minute that Leavitt wins out this year (huge if) and does well in a BCS bowl, or even wins all but the WV game. How much do you think USF will be able to offer him? Do you think they could even come close to "SEC money?"

I guess that my point is: bringing USF into contender status for the Big East title and an upset or two over top-25 teams seem like great accomplishments, but wouldn't reaching the upper eschelon of the NCAA in a power conference such as the SEC be the reasonable next goal?

And another thing: would we even want him? I'll be honest: I don't know that much about the Bulls rise to stardom.

Here's why I think he wouldn't leave:

1) He can build a bigger name for himself there where the expectations are low.

2) The state talent is high.

3) His name will forever be remembered at the man who built USF up.

4) He then can name his price.

South Florida will have plenty of money to pay him. Also, why can't he win a national championship at USF? Playing in a league that has an automatic BCS bid is a much better starting point than being an independent, which is the status from where Bowden and Schnellenberger built FSU and the "U" from.

South Florida is a good team, but can they handle the speed of the West Virginia offense????? I doubt it.

They certainly didn't have any problem handling it last year.

Good point. And, this year, they'll be in front of a packed house at Ray Jay. Tampa knows how to support football, and what an atmosphere it will be tomorrow night.

You may be right. With success comes excitement, and with excitement comes money. It's just hard for me to accept the Bulls as big-time contenders on a national level after the relative apathy I saw for the football program during my 3 years there.

The reports here were that Bama never really offered him. Apparently he had some personal issues and Bama didn't want any scandals in the wake of the Mike Price and Mike Dubose incidents.
(disclaimer: This may be just rumors put out by the Bama biased media in this state because they could never believe any coach would ever turn down a coaching job at UAT).

His program has improved immensely in the last 5 years. Upon further national exposure, he'll begin building his roster with the upper echelon of talent flooding the state of Florida.

I still wonder if Rutgers would have had the opportunity to play for all the marbles last year had they gone undefeated. It would have been hard to keep them out of the title game, but that didn't stop the speculation. I wonder if that bit of controversy could plant a seed of doubt?

Until, and IF, FSU and UM return to prominence, Levitt is in a good position as the possible no. 2 program in the state and will pull in good players the next few years. He is in a good place right now. His timing on the rise of USF is right.
