We need some good news

In other words we are at year 1 as DD says we are going to wait till about year 4 which is really year 5 before we can even think about big wins

Man are you bringing football forum crap over here dude? And use spell check next time too. I hope they delete your posts in this thread.

From an Xs and Os-ish standpoint for next season, I want to see us make a concerted effort to get the playmakers the ball. Part of the reason it seems like we haven't is 1) Bray is out and 2) we've played great teams... which has resulted in us not being on the field for a very long time offensively.

I would have no problem with a spread set of Hunter, Rogers, DeAnthony, Dallas, Marlin. The teams that could handle this defensively are few and far between. Even if the set included Hunter, Rogers, Clear, Rivera, Marlin... it would still create matchup issues, especially if any sort of hurry up creates personnel issues for the defense.
The two sets above didn't even include our best guy in space, Devrin, and a hybrid type player, Rajion.

Getting the ball to the playmakers has been discussed, and needs to happen. I know Worley and overall struggles have limited the rhythm of the offense, I just have confidence that we will have borderline unstoppable/unguardable packages next season.

I still think Hunter was the bigger loss over Bray. With Hunter taking double teams down the field Rogers is open for medium depth passes and we are running against 7 men fronts instead of 9.

Sometimes I feel the play calls are to the wrong guys. Like the fade Z.Rogers instead of D.Rogers. And the screen to Z.Rogers instead of Vincent Dallas or Arnett. I think the wrong person is given chances at times. Z.Rogers is the T.Poole of WRs to me.

I get what you mean. It's also somewhat frustrating that we just... haven't sustained a drive enough to get froggy with our playcalling. Against Cincy, when clicking, we were doing stuff that we just haven't seen since. Granted, a lot has changed with personnel, but it is still frustrating to see.

Sometimes, and I think we will see this next year, it really is as simple as "He's going to be open deep. So chuck it. And if not, I guess we will settle for Rivera for 15."

You've lost your mind. Bray throwing it to the WRs and TEs was a lot better. We've left so many points on the board due to bad reads or throws it's crazy. The decision making of Bray this year was crazy. He wasn't turning the ball over. He threw a ball to Rogers in the Georgia game that had three defenders in close coverage on a fourth down that really opened my eyes. Rogers got blasted but that pass was on the numbers and where it needed to be. We win against USC and the game Saturday would've been a shootout. Guys were open and we moved the ball but we didn't put up any points.

I try not to judge Z.Rogers based on his brother, but he drops some passes that he shouldn't and catches some that he shouldn't. I'm sure Vincent will be good in the future but I see nothing from him that separates him from Zack. Arnett on the other hand he should be the two kid has soft hands and runs great routes could use some work on the run blocking but who on this team couldn't.

He's a better athlete. I wouldn't mind seeing us get him the ball in space.

There just aren't that many defenses in the league, as good as this league is, that can put up with Hunter and Rogers all game and have any hope of matching up on DeAnthony or a good tight end. It just isn't in the cards for them.

And our O-line, as much as it has been ragged on, can and will pass block.

Wait, so what everyone is saying is that it's not all Dooley's fault? It's not Dooley's fault that Bray, Hunter, and Brewer all went down? It's not Dooley's fault that he took the coaching job of a program that had been run through the mud, and left without any talented upperclassman? It's not Dooley's fault that he couldn't take that same team and beat the number 1 team in the nation 2 weeks in a row, in his second year as head coach? This is going to be a mind boggling huge breakthrough to all of the college football Hall of Fame coaches over on the football boards. I bet if you were to post the current recruiting class for next season, they'd blow a load in their pants, and expect us to go undefeated next year while also blowing out Bama, and the entire SEC east.

Solid first post!

I doubt that most folks are going to really feel good based on recruiting news until signing day is in the books. This just doesn't feel like a program whose fans can count unhatched chickens.

I will fully agree with that statement that's the only area I really see him being better. If Neal will continue to hold on to the football as of late I'd like to see him and DY split time in the slot because I feel both of them have proved to be explosive enough to take quality snaps there imo.

I agree with you.

Neal can take the ball on running plays, he's proven that... and if he ends up matched up on a linebacker, he has shown the ability to go deep and go get the ball. He could be very good, just hope he finds his niche.

Not to mention the fact that Neal is a flippin true sophomore.

Yes he is and has soft hands for a RB or whatever you wanna call him. I don't count DY as a RB either but with that being said I think they would be the fastest players at the RB position.

They would be, yes.

It is just amazing to see our offense and get excited about it, and then realize none of the people we are excited about are even upperclassmen.

I want Neal to play more/get more touches. I don't care how lazy he is haha. As long as he doesn't fumble..

I know then you add this class if it holds together plus a little and it looks bright for both sides of the ball. Cause as bad as we played Saturday I seen the flashes that everyone for the most part seems to be missing on here. We had good chances to score but as a young team without the senior leadership little mistakes have the snowball effect for this team.

I mean, Arkansas absolutely waxed us. They smelled blood and attacked. The deep ball over the cover-2 in the endzone was them just being better than us, and having at it.

But, if we avoid the once in a lifetime return on the punt... and Worley doesn't throw a ball up for grabs... it's possible 14-14 at the half?

And, I didn't see the first drive, but on here a lot of people were talking about Mo Couch having a penalty that kept the drive alive.

We got crushed, yeah, but they were just better. Still some what-ifs that would have made it interesting.

Why is there so much common sense in the recruiting forum and hardly any in the football forum? This thread gave me new hope for VN

But, if we avoid the once in a lifetime return on the punt

Not to bash our own team here but DeShawn Jackson in 2007 was better imo

Yeah he hit the QB after he went out of bounds just a stupid penalty like we've had all year just players not staying focused.

I knew we'd get waxed by them no question we don't match up well with them period.
