We need some good news

Coaches really didn't like Moore as a CB on defense in the Fall. Felt he was too slow. They've had to insert him more at nickel out of necessity. They love Orta's potential. Gordon will never be anything more than a nickel back here. He is simply not good enough to cover on the outside. Waggner is a stud CB.

Waggner has a lot of potential at CB. How big is Moore? 6'/210? I know Dooley likes big SS.

Waggner's not a stud. Hahahaha but he's a better player at CB than safety. A stud corner would look like Morris Claiborne. Waggner does make plays though. Gordon won't play a lot next season(hopefully). He's nothing but a short area player.

My prediction:

CB: Waggner/Lanier
CB: Coleman/Orta
FS- Randolph
SS- Moore/Brewer

I agree with this. It'll be a coleman/lanier battle for the numbers two corner spot.

If Moore can play SS, I'm all for it if Brewer is slow to recover. He has improved a ton over the season, and seems like he could play at the line of scrimmage as well.

There will be freshman that, again, push for playing time, especially as EEs...

Gordon can help stop the run because he is willing to be physical and play nasty, but beyond that he seems to be lost.

Moore is more like 200 right now. Waggner only has so much potential at CB though. He play well over there and plays good technically but his speed is what holds him back from being a lot better.

Call me crazy, but how would Gordon do at SS? He is very physical.

If he was solely responsible for crashing on the run and tackling, I think he could. But taking into account the whole package, there could be better options.

I still think he plays some nickel next season, even if he isn't the first option there.

Also, having Moore and Lanier (and Couch) for the 3 years instead of only 2 is beautiful. Moore as a senior could be a helluva ballplayer.

I like the staff's movement towards bigger corners. Even Gray, who is just an absolute burner, is 6 foot.

And I keep hearing people excited about Crawley.

Next year hopefully we shall begin to see the stars emerge. We lack consistency, due to the amount of youth but next year for a lot of the true frosh especially on d well begin to settle in and be able to create and play fast without overthinking

Terrible.....we'd have no coverage flexibility. I want Randolph at SS with Moore at FS. Moore reads QBs well and Randolph brings it besides being very good at playing deep zone. That will allow us to be very versatile in our coverages. It also would allow us to drop Moore down in man at times with Randolph as the high safety.

Just popped in to catch up on any news, and was surprised to see some level headed Football talk. This is nice. Felt good to go through 5 pages, and even in disagreement, my blood pressure stayed down.

Big week, guys! I'm pumped. These last few years have been brutal, but an eye to the future does ease the pain a bit.

I have felt zero pain so far... the season has gone the way I thought it would... 6-6 with a bowl game.

I look forward to next year as the studs improve and the vols get in a great EE class.

Yep...it is all about realistic expectations. This year was inevitable regardless who the coach is due to 3 consecutive years of recruiting failures (2007-2009) and 3 coaching changes in 3 years that devastated the upperclassmen part of the roster.

This is the bottom. The team goes up from here.

These last couple of years have been a very trying time for our program but yet a very humbling experience at the same time IMO. We are so accustomed to seeing this program be successful and amongst some of the top teams in the country year in and year out so naturally lofty expectations are usually set (by the fools in the fball forum). At times it seems if were playing with a handicap due to the lack of our depth, youth/inexperience and key injuries. We need to face the fire even if it's with a bunch of kids (18 & 19 year olds) because it will only shape our "YOUNG VOLS" back into the "OLD TENNESSEE"

I like Crawley a lot. I think he and Peters are the two least talked about impact guys we're getting.

I know Peters has some huge fans on here, bit he deserves more. Dude is a monster.

I too agree with the approach to recruiting bigger corners, with speed especially. I think this roster from the sophomores down is starting to take shape as a true SEC type of roster and in another year or two we should be back where we left off talent wise 10 years ago.
