We need a tradition for RECRUITING

I think the Vol village, or whatever it's called, is an attempt to create a Grove-like scene. If you can tailgate near the rock it's similar to the frat row scene on Milledge in Athens. It's hard to manufacture a scene. I think it's even harder in Lexington, Knoxville and Columbia, SC as none of those are really college towns in the traditional sense. Baton Rouge is probably the only place that seems to bridge being a decent sized city with a college town vibe. Knoxville is just too big to funnel everyone into a dedicated parking/tailgating area.

Someone tell the recruits that attended last weeks Florida debacle not to sweat it, everything's gonna be ok. We're planting bushes around Neyland and training Smokey to fetch the tee after kickoffs!

I remember a USFL team that trained a dog to go get the tee after kickoff. Something like that would be good if the NCAA could get over it

Boise State already has a dog that retrieves the kickoff tee.

The only thing worse than manufacturing a gimmick because you don't like the numerous other traditions we already have is to steal a dumb one from a Mountain West school.

Today's kids don't care about tradition. They care about bling. How sweet is your locker room, weight room, etc.

Other big time football schools have tradition. Recruits like this. We need to establish a tradition like other schools have like between the hedges, the Grove, Toomer's Corner, the swamp. It would cause big time athletes to take notice and would engender a better fan relationship.

Any thoughts?

You think Toomer's Corner is why kids go to Auburn?

Auburn folks seem to like it. Never been there, but might drive through someday so I can say I did. But they have won a fair share of championships, so I can't disrespect that. Might be worth the trip.
