We need a Tennessee lawyer alum to start dropping law suits on officials

Probably the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard.
1st: every official would quit. Would you officiate any sport if you could get sued for missing a call? Hell no!
2: stop hating the refs. They are human, they are going to make mistakes and miss a call sometime
3: can’t blame a guy for taking a job and getting paid and keep it even if they are bad at it as long as the employer keeps paying them.
4: All the blame should be directed at the Employer, SEC,ACC, etc.
Refs should be full time employees, well trained. An adequate # kept so the ones that fail to meet a high standard can be replaced.
You beat me to it on #1. That’s the key reason why it’s a goofy idea. There wouldn’t be enough referees left to do games. Nobody in his right mind would do it if a bad call gets you sued. Suspend the ref or crew that habitually makes mistakes but that’s about all you can do.

Other than disciplining poorly performing crews, the obvious cure for this complaint is to get rid of sports betting on college athletics. Legalizing it was a bad idea in the first place and it is doing nothing more than diminishing the ability to enjoy the games themselves. Good lord, I was born a century too late. o_O

My HS coach always said that if you put yourself in a situation where an official's call can determine the came, then you have to deal with the outcome.
The problem with the MCB was that it wasn't a single call. ONe was blatant and impacted the end of the game, but PI called repeatedly on UT and an obvious hold by PU with crickets. Not to mention the dozens of miss spots costing UT first downs.
I agree with you coach that one missed play by the refs should not cost you a game, but the ACC officials sure appeared to be biased against UT throughout the entire game.

I was there and what you describe is exactly why many of us commented it appeared the game was being “fixed” by the officials. Go review the holding call on a UT guard, the official was at least 35 yards down field. He actually had to throw the flag twice because it only went about 20 yards on the first throw . Just absolutely corrupt officials.

And getting jobs.

Make it so these terribly officiated games have repercussions. Colin Cowherd just tweeted out that every year you could take the top 5 most bizarre games, and Tennessee would have 4 of them.

I’m fine if we lose to a better team, but losing because of poor officiating against us needs to start having repercussions for the refs doing this.

Sue them now.
Well, high school is dismissed this week. Guess that explains this post.

Yeah except that a purposefully frivolous lawsuits can lead to issues for the attorney who files the suit. Maybe we have some homer lawyer who would be glad to gamble their license for the opportunity of better officiating, but I don't think many good ones would. I know plenty of UT Law Grads and not a one of them would touch a suit like this .

Missing a call, any ref can do.
Habitually or being known for being bad like some are, then they need to be replaced, period.

Hell yeah. And the more flamboyant the better. Holds press conferences outside league headquarters and dons a comically large cowboy hat.

Now just one second. You left out the sequin shirts. If you are gonna wear the hat, you gotta have the shirts to match. And boots too. Don't forget the boots. That is like wearing a vampire costume without the fangs.

Might as well have a guitar as well. Bone up on "Happy Trails" for when you leave. And "Indian Love Call" to open the proceedings. We gotta get this right. Oh, anyone have a horse?

How about reward the refs who have the highest competence score at the end of the year with the final four, playoffs, etc. Incentivize good calls instead of criminalizing the bad ones.

This has always been my take. You always control the fate of your team. Play better the other 59+ minutes and that one bad call/no call won't even matter.

So counselor, your opening arguments include quoting Colin Cowherd? You better hope the opposing counselor quotes some sort of village idiot, or a politician. Or the jury is going to hope the judge throws this outta court before they ever have to deliberate.
