We need a graduate transfer QB

Anyone that takes a snap behind that O-line is gonna look like poo. Watch Chaney make JG a solid QB. Y’all forgetting what he did for Peterman at Pitt. He turned him into a QB that made it to the next level. JG has the tools...now he’s got a legit QB OC to teach him. I’m not giving up on the kid yet.

I think Chaney will work wonders for JG. He essentially just won the lottery.

I'm going to say no.. We need the spot for other positions and we weren't going to make it to the "next level" this year no matter who the QB is IMO...
The next level being.......6-6 or 7-5?

We need a graduate transfer offensive line
Absolutely, this and the hope that Maurer and Shrout can push JG for the starting job... I think all QBs fit Chaney’s mold for more of a Pro Style pocket passer. But if we can solidify our line I look forward to being able to run with play action at some point... it will help tremendously and in turn our QBs will look much different

If this team wants to get into the East race, we need Hurts or Kendall. JG, while tough, is not the QB to take us to the next level.

Forget East race. This roster has to be built to be able to beat Vandy, Kentucky and Missouri. Until we can do that every year there is no competing for East. Wont happen in 2019 for certain.

Beating Vandy, Ky and Missou regularly.. There's still much work to be done here. There are many here that either don't get that or stubbornly refuse to accept it.

We already beat Kentucky regularly... I don't see it taking too long to beat Vandy regularly either. I think we beat them in '19. We probably lose to Missouri again, it's on the road. We are a long way from competing with Georgia. We are not a long way from being back to 8-4.

So, 18 hours after you started this post, looks like 13 people agree with you, whereas 55 think we’d be much better served with a grad transfer OL.

Totally disagree. We definitely don't need a GT qb. If we keep bringing in GT's then our young qb's will never see the field. If we are considering this a rebuild then it will be tough but you might as well play the young ones to get them experience.

I am all for playing a young one, especially later in the season, if we are out of the East race. I don’t understand how people can say JG is good enough.

Chaney made Jonathan Crompton a decent QB, think about that. He said so himself on the Midday 180 in Nashville this week. Cromp-daddy got drafted and played in Canada and he thanks Chaney for that. Not to mention Peterman at the Pitt, oh and theres some dude in New Orleans too

We’ll probably see 8-4 in 2020.

Because every available QB would play like Chryst......
Pretty much every graduated upper class qb who would transfer here wasn’t good enough to play for his original team. Jalen Hurts is literally the only guy now available who had great success at his previous school and would be considered an elite get. And he ain’t coming here. So yeah, pretty much anybody else who would come here would play like Chryst imo, which wasn’t good. As a matter of fact, I’d wager that if by some miracle Hurts did come here, the fans would hate him early and often, like they do every other Tennessee Qb, as soon as he shows, yet again, to not be a good enough pocket passer.

Vandy owns us, has won 5 of 7. Tables have turned...they’re not your granddaddy’s Vandy and we sure as hell ain’t your granddaddy’s Tennessee. Huge assumption to think things will soon, or ever, go back to like they were back in the day.

JG didn't have a prayer last year because of the offensive line play. I cannot believe the number of posters who continuously discount the importance of blocking in football. Look at Tua's stats against top 30 defenses (he played 4, LSU/Miss State/Georgia/Clemson), when your offensive line can't block a bunch grandmas playing bridge, that makes every defense you face the equivalent of a Top 30 defense.

Hate is a strong word. I don't hate JG. I don't think he is that good of a passer, and I'm disappointed that he is still the best option.

Hopefully, the new OC will help him, improve

Part of the reason we got drubbed by Mizzou and Vandy was because of anemic offensive production early in the game. When JG was at QB against Mizzou, we didn't get a first down. QB is the most important position. A QB with a hint of mobility can mask a bad OL. JG is very accurate in the pocket. His accuracy drops significantly when moving. I think our defense will take a large step forward with the young talent joining. The OL as well
Was he not listed as one of the top dual-threat qbs in his class ?! I wonder why he hasn't shown that aspect of his game ?!

I think JG made vast improvements from Butch to Pruitt. I'd like to see him play when he isn't getting murdered on every pass. You have to remember that JG was taking shot after shot after shot after shot. When he had time to see the field, he made some nice throws last year. I'm not saying he's Peyton by any means, but I don't think he's as bad as some let on.

It'll be interesting to see how he does under Chaney. Cromp daddy improved dramatically
