True... and I hope that we make good decisions when pushing. Lately we've seen way too many bad passes in transition.

I hope we can dictate tempo, and if not, at least make good decisions in our half court offense.

our turnovers have decreased over the past few games as well, or at least it sure seems like it, and i think that's also a part of our slow pace tendencies of late.

when teams take care of the ball and can rebound, a la Arkansas, we expose ourselves.

these 1st two games, i agree with AZ, we need to try and take advantage of the other team's short bench. to do that, we got to get back to what we do. press and force turnovers and create offense from that. that's where those extra possesions come from.

i figured after watching the SEC T that the fouls would get tighter. About three years ago, the women started calling the Hand Check crap. These type calls went away the next year. I hope we get the quality of Refs we had in the Memphis game. that was the first game I can remember in a long while they let them play without taking over the game. They were consistant in their calls and were not a factor. I find it hard to believe how you can win at home like we do and not get call for the same fouls that occur on the road. Is there a mindset here. I just do not get it. The Tourney SEC and NCAA will be a different set of standards as well. My question is why such a discrepency. Had the SEC Tourney been to home games half of the foul calls would have been made

I think our half court offense looked decent during the tournament. Going inside and running deliberate sets. Rebounding and defense and aggressiness is what killed us and of course FT.

I agree, I thought that our half court offense was pretty good in the SEC T. We will need to keep that up, cause I doubt we'll get a bunch of points in transition, particularly in the second round game.

Our offense was better than good in SEC tourney. For the two games combined we shot 56% from the field and had 40 assists. If we can keep that up and play decent defense, we can advance deep into the NCAA's.

I truly believe that Pearl has something up his sleave for the tourney. He was setting the tone with the offense in the tourney. I am thinking we are going to see something we have not seen this year defensively and got a glimpse of it offensively in the tournament. Maybe I have more faith in his ability than most but I do not believe he is one to lie there and take it. I think he was preparing for controlled games but we got beat by playing up tempo games which 9/10 times we win by a 10 plus point margin. Something is up. He knows what he is doing and he is setting up some teams to scout him one way to spring a different style of play during the tourney. I think he thought we were destine to get a 2nd seed no matter what but did not think we would be in the toughest bracket.

We do this during the tourney with our defense. We win it all.

This post was great. It puts actual numbers to what your instincts tell you. Are the pace numbers for each team/game listed somewhere and I never noticed them?

As for Pearl's statement about playing more physical because refs call fouls less in the tournament, I think he was referring to the body fouls in the paint--the Hansbrough specials.

Sometimes I thing all the hand checks and grabbing by "faster" teams originate in frustration and impatience! If Kansas ends up playing Wisconsin, we're all hoping the bands play loud and often, or we may get a technical called when the crowd falls asleep and tumbles onto the court!

Why would Tennessee get a Technical Foul call in a game not directly related to them.
