We might actually be ranked next year

IF we start off 3-0, I can see us cracking the top 25 (20-25 range)......I think to finish in the top 25 we will need 9 wins

I think an 8-4 regular season will do it (see: 2010 Mississippi State). After the bowl, we'd need 9 wins.

UT might be ranked late in the season but it probably wont be before say the Kentucky game. They'll make head way and then lose to Florida then work their way back and lose to LSU, then get right at the cusp and lose to Alabama but it would be hard not to put a 9-3 SEC team in the top 25. (Which is what I think UT will end their record with)

If we do what you suggest, I'd be shocked not to crack the top 25 at 7-3 with wins over Georgia, South Carolina, and Arkansas. Also, I'd love to see the season play out that way.

Its very possible. I also dont think Georgia or Arkansas are going to be big wins really. I think the main thing is Tenn will be starting in such a hole. No longer are the days where the top 25 is the 5 best teams from the SEC, B10, B12, Pac10 and ACC. There are a lot of smaller schools like the TCUs, Boise, Nevadas, etc that are taking top spots.

TP is good but we need a speed back... to help out, receiving core is excell along with the qb's , but championships r won with defense...

Would like to see 2011 play out this way myself!

Well, Mississippi State was ranked this year at 6-4 with wins over Florida and Georgia (both of whom were pretty bad). I'd liken our situation next year to theirs this year.

If we get ranked again I may save the newspaper since it has been so far in between... I remember when I used to be mad when we started out of the top 15...

JMO, but I'd think that we better beat some SEC teams & teams with winning records before they rank us....wins over Buffalo, Middle TN, and Montana probably wont get us too many votes.

I remember being furious with an 8-5 season.

I remember the days of getting upset and feeling ripped off if we weren't in the preseason top ten. To sniff the top 25 would almost feel like a national championship at this point. Man, how things change.
