Let's be honest with ourselves Volnation. We have never been a good football team. Even with a full roster at the beginning of the year.

Like many of you, I kept lying to myself saying we just weren't showing everything. Then I use the injury excuse. Injuries are a big part of why we aren't as good as we thought. However, our 3 star third string should be better than South Carolina. Anyway here is a list of why we aren't as good as we thought we ever were.

1. We get lucky to beat appy state because of an unforced missed extra point. The Dobbs fumble in OT took some luck as well. This happened with our entire team healthy.

2. Virginia Tech did to us what we did to Texas A&M.. fumble a lot. They were tearing us up 14-0 before this.

3. Ohio plays toe to toe with us.

4. Florida has a backup quarterback and gives us a hard time. We did beat them legit though.

5. The worst Georgia team I can remember nearly beat us. A win is a win? Not when looking at the big picture. UGA is bad.

6. Texas A&M was our best performance all year and we still lost because of turnovers.

7. Alabama...

8. South Carolina, a team who nearly lost to UMASS, beat us last night.

It sucks but you're right. This is who we are. Take the luck away and we're left with this. And it's not where we should be. Losing to this South Carolina team with the talent we have is inexcusable.

Hard to argue with ANY of your points. Team 120...coaches & players...lacking consistency & progress in almost every phase of the game. :hi:

Looks like I debunked your thread in 1 sentence.

No you didn't, not remotely. Our team has talent and potential. But as the OP said, you gotta play more than 2 good, even great quarters.

This team I s/was capable of doing great things, but the inconsistency, the lack of discipline, all the countless mistakes and, quite honestly, the lack of leadership at all levels has left it with a poor season. What could have been......

You are still in the denial stages. It's okay man, I was there at one point.

Well at least change the name of the thread to

"We have never been good....except the 2nd half against Florida"

As you have admitted we did play well in that game........

BTW: spare me the you are in denial BS. I have been calling for Butch's head since the Florida game in 2015

I don't really think Florida is that good either, which makes them winning the east even more frustrating. We looked good versus a Florida team that quit in the second half.

If winning a half makes a season, then last year we were world beaters.

I didn't say we haven't played well. I said we have never been a good football team. Bad teams play well at times.

The level of play doesn't match the talent. We are not consistent on offense which is traceable to the qb. For a system which relies on the qb to be a runner and an accurate passer, it boggles my mind that we don't have a coach for that position. The lack of creativity frustrates the hell out of me. E Berry could be a Randall Cobb type player but gets 1 touch besides a 100 yard return.

Injuries have hurt, no doubt. But like the OP notes, we weren't looking good before injuries struck.

Florida is good defensively. Offense is pedestrian. But unlike us, they just ask the qb to be a game manager - don't make mistakes, check down and take a small gain, etc. I'm sure the UF coaches told Del Rio to relax, don't try to be spectacular, after he threw a horrible early interception yesterday. Eventually, they just ground Ga. down. Boring but effective.

Luckily we played against Florida backup qb. I don't think we would have shutdown their offense in the second half if rio played.
