Maybe, from a "taking other players with him standpoint", Nico did us a favor with the immature and crass way he dealt with the situation. Nobody wanted to ride on the Stink Train with him.

I was afraid that when Nico left we would have a mass exodus in the portal. That has not happened yet, and at this point I doubt it will.

Is this a clear sign that Nico was not well liked, and no one really cares that he left?

From all accounts he was not a bad guy, but also not a vocal leader. If there is any truth to the reports he skipped meetings and practices, he may have lost the team.
I can’t remember which podcast I heard it from but it was talking about Merklinger talking about the offense and QB stuff with GMac. Nothing about Nico. I don’t think Nico had the respect of the team. I think both Merk and GMac do.

Nico left. Next Chapter. Reality hit him in the face. We did not know it but he was more than likely not capable of leading a team of adult men or reading defenses. It probably showed in practices, his attitude and comments to players.
This is not HS football, dads can't get into the coach's head, and NICO was in Over His Head.
He didn't gain anything and probably wanted to do it his way versus the team way.
Talented yes, but that is where he stops. Sad but true.
Many would have been calling him a failure as he would have continued to digress.
What does he know about NFL QBs and the need to get there.
Another Shedeur Sanders in the making IMO.

It's hard to read into what may or may not be happening in the locker room. From what I have seen, guys who talk about what goes on in the locker room are usually not well liked by others in the room. "It stays between these walls" is a good motto.

As far as not being a vocal leader, that works well for some guys. Others, not so much. Now if the guy in question doesn't do anything else with the team or his teammates outside of the locker room/field, that's probably a flag. Good leaders learn that they have to do things that they don't want to do as a part of the role. They do it, do it well, and don't complain.

Non vocal leaders have to be great on the field and hard working at practice otherwise it doesn’t work

Way overrated. Football IQ lacking.

.... and when you are already the highest paid player on the team, how do you think your teammates are going to feel about you demanding even more, when your stats don't justify it?

I don't think he's a bad person, but I can easily see why his teammates might not have liked him.

If he didn't meet his obligations to Spyre, skipped team meetings and took most of the snaps in Spring practice knowing he was likely to leave, I would say he's a self-centered b*tch. But, that's just me.

Understood. The more I learn about his behavior here, the less I like him. I think it's good that he's gone.
