We grow with Butch

After much reflection, my take is 4 words:

We grow with Butch.

Sure, he has proven he doesn't know what the **** he's doing in this league sometimes. At times, he's obviously been in over his head. So were we when he showed up. He will fix the offense, he's already cut ties with long time assistants before to get it right (see: Shoop).

He grows, we grow.

He's our guy. He doesn't have all that fancy experience a guy like Saban had. Fact is, Tennessee doesn't get a Saban or Meyer. We build a Fulmer. He grew while we did too, so why would this be different.

I'll hate Butch +\-175 days out of every year, but he is a VFL. He will grow up in front of our eyes. In a world looking for instant gratification, we will show loyalty to a man that recruited better than anyone at Tennessee FOR Tennessee other than Fulmer.

When we're old as ****, we will tell people about a coach we took a chance on and a coach that took a chance on us.

We grow with Butch.

Huh? This isn't a place you come to 'grow' at. You either know what you're doing by the time you get to this level or you don't. Butch should get one more year and one more chance to show that he knows what he's doing and that he can get the job done or he needs to go simple as that. He's a great recruiter but the lack of any player development, the defections from the team, the assistants who have no business coaching in D1 and a number of other things really make me question if he knows what he's doing. I hope he proves all of us who doubt him wrong and he gets it fixed quickly or it's everyone who suffers. Maybe I'm in the minority here but I don't see Jones as the long term answer here and that's a shame because no doubt he has brought this team back from the pits but perhaps he's not the one to take it to the top of the hill.

Anyone who remotely thinks that Butch could be released at the end of the season is absolutely delusional.

I really feel positive. I feel like team 120 has gone through a dark tunnel and come out the other side. I feel like this is a turning point for Butch. I also think Butch LOVES this university and he wants to succeed more than any guy we've seen in recent history. He may not have got us to the promised land this year...but he is determined to get there, and at this point, seeing what the guy can do, I don't doubt him. Every good coach has to go through a dark period in learning how to be the best.

Funny how he was such a get when we won 11 straight & now we lose ONE game we aren't supposed to ( his first real upset loss at Tenn in 4 years) & all the sudden he can't coach! I think Hurd was a problem child & him gone will solve some internal problems.

Why are you all using ONE GAME that was lost because Dobbs played HORRIBLE, to jump ship? Dobbs is 98% responsible for that loss. It was his worst game, maybe of his career.

He had two interceptions, that should not have happened, and a fumble. Not to mention one or two passes thrown into the ground 3 or 4 yards short of the receiver. If he plays a solid game, Tennessee wins 31-21 or 24-17 or 28-14.

I love Dobbs as a leader, a person, and someone who wants to be a good QB, but he for some reason is maybe passing worse this year than at anytime in his career.

Don't get me wrong, the loss to South Carolina is Butch Jones worse loss since he has been at Tennessee.

But there is also no doubt in my opinion that Tennessee has gotten better every year.

Let's try and remember how they destroyed that Florida defense this year. 35-7 in the 2nd half, 700+ yards in the Texas A&M game. Maybe after the Texas A&M game, the injuries and Hurd's attitude caught up with this team.

Just one other comment, let's wait until after Florida-Arkansas game before we give up on the SEC East Championship. Florida is not exactly a scoring machine. So Arky will play them close and being at home may beat Florida.

I don't really think the meltdown is over just ONE game. Honestly, we should have been sitting 3-5 right now based on our performance...You have wins vs FLA, VA Tech, and Ohio. Appy State should have won, as should have UGA.

The fact is, I am so happy we won those games, and would not trade places, but nobody is going to tell me those were solid wins.

The meltdown is, that in year 4, we have a coaching staff that is unable to get players up for a game and have them come out ready to play. We have a coaching staff that can't keep players healthy. We have an O Line that just can't learn to block no matter how much experience they get. We have DBs who REFUSE to look back for the ball when they are in coverage. We have a senior QB who has regressed.

There is a lot more behind this meltdown than one upset loss.

Well if you have a bad apple, you throw it in the trash before it ruins the others.

If Hurd was the "bad apple" he should have been dealt with along time ago.

This team has struggled all year, and if In fact it was Hurd then Lyle should have dealt with this a long time ago. It would be another reason Jones is not competent enough to be the coach at the University of Tennessee

Anyone who calls CBJ "Lyle" is someone whose opinion is worthless.

It's classless and says all I need to know about their thought process (or lack thereof).

He should be called Botch because he's botched the season.

Let's analyze:

Appy ST. You are obviously saying Tennessee would have lost in OT if Hurd had not recovered the fumble in the endzone. Maybe but you don't know for sure. There might have been a 2nd OT. But I will say it is unacceptable to have to beat them in OT

Va Tech --- Which has proven to be a good team. Tennessee controlled the game from 2nd quarter on. They clearly won and were the better team

Ohio -- I didn't see, but looked bad.

Florida -- Tennessee was clearly the better team 35-7 in the 2nd half against the 1st or 2nd best defense in America

Georgia-- Georgia played their best game of the year. If Hurd doesn't fumble at goal line the last plays by Georgia and Tennessee wouldn't of been necessary. So Tennessee did win and should have won.

Texas A&M-- They are ranked #4 by the College Playoff Committee. 700+ yards of offense, 2OT, on the road. and 7 turnovers. If they only have 5 turn overs Tennessee WINS>

So Tennessee should have been 6-0 going into Alabama

Alabama--Tennessee never had a chance. Why maybe injuries a hangover from Tex A&M. Don't know

South Carolina--Worst game under Butch. but the loss is because Dobbs was horrible!!! If Dobbs just plays an OK game they win.

It'd be great to find an internship program that pays 4 million a season and provides OTJ training.

Jones is a lucky man to have landed it.

Saban didn't walk in and dominate the league. LSU was the perfect scenario as it had been under coached for years. He was a different coach when he took over at Bama.

Butch needs to learn from Dabo. Hire great assistant coaches, and let them do their thing. Butch can sell a program that is obvious by the way he has recruited. I think he made a good hire with Shoop. But, he needs to do the same on the offensive side of the ball. Let someone come in, and make this offense special. We have the pieces. We are still fairly young with the exception of qb. Most of the line and receivers will be back next yr, but Deboard isn't going to cut it. The roster is there, and with another good class the depth will get better. But, the offense we have shown this yr isn't going to cut it. We have to upgrade that side of the ball. Butch needs to swallow his pride, and upgrade that side of the ball. If he doesn't I think he will be gone by 2018.

You do realize "this offense" was 3rd in the SEC and 29th in CFB in scoring last year...only real difference - Kerbyson and Pearson.

This year they are 8th and 68th.

Same coaches, primarily same players...something happened...lack of discipline and intensity. It just doesn't make sense to me unless there is more to the locker room issues than meets the eye.

Part of my point is that we do actually have to take what we could get. There were other, more established guys we wanted over Butch, but they snubbed us. We're different. We let Fulmer grow, and if we want to see that success again, in my opinion, we're gonna have to be patient again. I love UT, but we just can't go out and get a coach at the level that we all wish we could.

Fulmer didn't have to grow. He was good when he took the job. Botch is actually digressing from his days at cincy.

Yeah, Texas wants Butch. Please keep worrying yourself about that. About like me worrying that someone will just randomly give me millions of dollars.

Both are equally as likely.

Right now, the whole sports world, especially College, is being pretty hard on Butch

If some of these guys would venture to other sites other than UT, they would see only UT fans want Butch

It's scary. These folks just love them some mediocrity...

It was the exact same way with Dooley.

The excuses are identical. I had posted some examples a while back, but the posts were deleted...I guess for calling someone out.

I am 100% for the Vols, but if a coaching staff is the problem, changes must be made. Fire Butch? No. But clean house in the "BSIA"
