Move if needed, but this needs to be seen by many eyes as possible.I live in Smith County....and yesterday a 14 year boy named Phillip Parker took his own life.He was being bullied because he was gay and all he wanted was to be accepted. We all know kids can be very mean, but we have got to get the word out to put a stop to it.We need to watch these kids for signs of be bullied, while teaching the ones bullying that it will no longer be tolerated.I did not know the kid myself, but it saddens me that he was hurting so bad that he felt like he had to end his life. Please pray for the parker family and every kid across this country that are hurting right now due to insensitve kids and even adults...we as adults have to teach our kids that just because we dont agree with something due to our faith or whatever reason not to treat others like they are worthless.I know I am rambling but this has struck a nerve with me.I have 3 kids the oldest being a 13 year old boy.He went to a different school than the kid and i have had to get on to him for using words like f****t. I just cant imagine the pain this kid was in nor his family is now.I will be honest but not debating religion here but I dont agree with homosexuality.Telling somebody something is wrong out of love(faith)and calli7ng somebody something insensitve are not even close to being the same.I really hope that my children are not acting in a manner thats hurtful.I have thought about if him and my son did go to the same school, would my son been one that was mean to him? I dont think so but kids change when they get a bunch of other kids.It starts at home with our kids. Help stop it! Sorry for rambling on(or any mistakes in my writing grammer police) thanks for reading and please pray for the parkers, the kids that found out and could not sleep caus eall they could think of is being mean to him and now he is dead.God bless you and all your families.Go vols!Monday wear purple in the memory of Mr.Parker.

While I feel for the kid and his family.. at the same time, bullying stops when a kid is taught to stand up for himself. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, it got to the point when I had a problem with getting bullied.. that stopped when I decided I had enough, stood up and blacked the kids eye.

He came back and ended up winning the fight, but he also stopped trying to bully me because he knew it wasn't going to be easy to do anymore.

Stand up for yourself, because wounds heal and chics dig scars... JMO

It's not quite that simple.

There comes to a point where you have to stand up for your self, you cant stop bullying its human nature but you can stop it from happening to you by standing up for your self but RIP Phillip Parker!

Everyone is bullied sometime in their life, it's going to happen. Offing yourself is just a cowards way out. It's the pussificiation of America. Learn a martial art, take up boxing, learn to fight, stand up for yourself.

Hell even I bullied, because I was overweight...I just learned to fight and be stronger then everyone.

It sucks that the kid died, but ****, I am sick of reading, we need to do this...no...the kid being bullied needs to stick up for himself! Nothing more! Quit taking the cowards way out.

In all honestly, I wish someone told me I needed to stand up for myself when I was bullied during school, What might have been.

A very sad story, prayers sent, but I have never heard of a kid as young as 14 having declared he was gay. Way too young to think he's "gay." And what he did was a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Sad.

This is why I have 3 boys in Brazilian jiu jitsu, including my 12 yr old, who is a mildly autistic boy going to a normal middle school in middle class America. If they were to get picked on for any reason, there is a good chance the other kid will take a little nap and not mess with them again. They have been taught several different chokes one can use whether in a defensive position or offensive. They will never start a fight or pick on anyone, but will be ready to help others if needed and protect themselves.

I would be interested to see the parents/family structure surrounding the kids very unfortunate circumstances and decision. If that's my son and it's getting that bad, my ass is moving elsewhere.

There are some that feel it is the only way out.

I have taught my kids to stand up for themselves, but say you have a kid that has it all going for him and somebody comes to fight(at school)Because your kid talked back. The bully hits your kid and he fights back and breaks the bullys nose a month before he is to graduate. Due to the injury he caused is charged with aggravated assault,he now has a criminal record due to us not trying to stop the bullying. Fighting is no longer just a suspension like it was when i was growing up?

being bullied sucks however, its not the main cause for this kid to kill himself. Gay or not, he could have went to the school's administration and told...Why didn't the parents step in? Who knows?

This kid obviously had other issues going on, either that or he was very weak minded and just wanted an easy way out.

Killing yourself over being bullied in my opinion is B.S. there had to have been other things going on...Just my
.02 cents.
