We finished #9

Could argue for #7. I think we beat Boise and Arizona state. AS usual, TN got screwed by having to play the best team in the country(At their home and terrible weather) in the first round PO.

We were gonna get beat by every team other the Indiana. Team came out completely unprepared with no game plan.

My prediction at the beginning of the season was between 8-5 and 9-4 citing the unknowns of Nico, the OL, and issues in the secondary with an AP final rank of around 15 to 20.
Final results of 10-3 with a final AP slot of 9th exceed my expectations.

Great year in my book for our beloved VOLS !!!

Also, before anyone throws shade, when is the last time UT finished in the AP Top Ten with 10 wins, outside of Josh Heupel's tenure?...
2007 was the last squad to finish with 10 wins, BUT they fell to 12th in the final AP poll.
Fulmer also fielded 10 win teams in 2003 and 2004, but finished 15th and 13th respectively.
To get to the last UT team with 10 wins and a Top Ten Final ranking, you have to go back to the 2001 team that finished 11-2 at number 4 in the polls.
Folks, that's almost 25 years in the making - puts the amazing things CJH has done in perspective for sure.
Thanks for the reasonable perspective. Makes a lot of sense from a longer term viewpoint. Sometimes we tend to focus on the moment and not the goal.

Final ranking means nothing it’s just for the record books and history. Just buy me a natty and I’ll be good. If we’re not going to buy a natty then I’ll just enjoy the season and college football in general.
When I look back to the final records during the first 10 of the last 15 years, I am very pleased with the records for last 4 years. That does mean something to me and I feel very good about where we are at the present time.

Means a lot to me, prior to Josh Heupel, we hadn't had an AP top 10 finish since 2001 (we really should have done it in 2003 but choked in that bowl game against Clemson).

We have had 2 AP top 10 finishes with Heupel in 4 years and finished ranked every year except his first year. HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT.

Exactly... The key word in today's Professional College Football League is "BUY". Better start matching big boys (OSU) Pay for Play and Play for Pay dollars or might as well lay around on the porch !

There was an article that came out that touched on it a bit but.. the main thing that affected the OSU UT game was the failed takeover of the shoe.

The players and fans of OSU got really motivated by that and that lit a serious fire under them. Imagine if a team deigned to come into Neyland and checkerboard it? How would that fly? has we pulled it off it goes a totally different way but because it was so much in the news and talked about adnasuem it got those guys motivated when they stepped on the field and we didn't pull it off. We got like 30% of the crowd which is actually really impressive. Had they walked out to half the stadium in orange they likely get demoralized.

Moral of the story if you're pulling something like that off make sure you have it in the bag before bragging. Like 50 cent did JaRule.. he bought tickets to one of his concerts to make sure they'd be empty. Home field advantage is a big deal in college football especially against the big dogs in the 100k club.

Yeah the tiny little detail of playing the eventual NATIONAL CHAMPIONS on their home field at NIGHT seems to get lost on some. I personally think it was a huge obstacle for us to overcome. Could we beat them in Neyland?🤷‍♂️
Not to mention we lost most of our offense on the first play of the game, and after the Michigan loss, both OSU coaches and players were on the war path. Details, details! 🤫

But remember, our fanbase took over their stadium! 😉. Got to get us a feather in our cap for something. lol.
