We Digress...

Some of the veteran posters that are on the side commonly labeled "negavols" confuse me sometimes, actually often, but one way in particular.

They explain how they didn't want Butch when he was hired, they knew he wouldn't be the guy that took us to championships and would be an 8 win coach, max. Look at his resume. They go on to boast about how they were right, so far, and that it's undeniable evidence that it's going to continue. So far they are/were right.

But Now, it's the end of the world, constantly whining and bichin like they expected it to be better when they already knew it wouldn't be. How does that make sense? I understand being critical of Butch and wanting to discuss his issues, that's what this board is for. But, the way some "carry on", just makes me wonder what they're not telling "us".

Maybe not the best analogy, but if I have a really fast donkey that I enter in a horse race, knowing he can't win but has a good chance of not losing, I'm not disappointed when he doesn't win. He may do better than expected, so I start thinking of ways to see if he can win the next one, who knows. He gets really close, but that ole donkey stubbornness kicks in and he does something really stupid, like stops and sits down in the middle of the race, then gets back up and finishes 6th instead of maybe 3rd.

I got so excited, about my donkey, that I knew couldn't win a horse race but almost did, that I'm disappointed yet happy.

For whatever reasons, I can't get a horse for this race, I have to stick with this donkey until someone gives me either another donkey or a horse.

There's are a lot going on here, but back to my original issue, how does it make me look going around talking crap about my donkey? Constantly.

In this case the donkey is hurt because other people constantly hear it will never win the horse race. Trainers don't try as hard, whats the point, staff doesn't take as good of care because the donkey is going to be replaced. The next donkeys aren't going to be as good because they see how we are treating this donkey. Good donkeys and horses want to work with people that are good to donkeys.

why go race for an owner when the last donkey was kicked out for doing a better job than the last 2 or 3 donkeys?

Has nothing to do with my point.

This is where these type of discussions get frustrating. This is not about the donkey.

It's about the people who incessantly aver, "The donkey is shizzle. It's not even a horse; it's a donkey in a horse race." They discard objective criticism to wallow in their discontent and decry the donkey in not so imaginative ways.

To offer another analogous tale - The race car driver joins a new team fielding a new car for the first time. In his first race driving the new car, he comes in second. The crew is encouraged. The following day, he meets with the directors. The chairman opens with, "About that race you lost..."

Never mind.

All the "negavols" constantly whining and complaining. Are they like that away from here? Do they constantly complain at work? At home to thier wives and or kids? The way they do here? They say "just being honest, and it's fact". The "facts" about something positive automatically puts you in a negative labeled category. How does that effect thier jobs or marriage?

I've wanted to ask this before but didn't want to derail the thread. I just posted a comment in a FF thread that's a Nega vs pumper debate. This question would fit in perfectly.

What is really confusing to me, and it happens often, just like that post. I think it makes sense and worth comments or debate. It gets ignored. Why? It immediately got a like, but 6-7 posts after it, no one comments or debates it. It may have been responded to while posting this, but even if it has, that happens pretty often. Not just with me, I've noticed it with others as well. I have suspicions, but I'm not sure.

I picked up on the gist of your question in your earlier post, Behr. I look back upon my merrily mischievous reply with a modicum of regret (BodhisattVols are capable of both).

Odds are that some of the negas on VN are indeed negative in their general outlooks and demeanor, and their relationships and fortunes are impacted by this. Others indulge themselves in negadom on VN as a purge of sorts and probably are generally positive in their outlook and demeanor otherwise. Still others may mask their true selves behind the nega or pumper personas they project here, on VN (Too much effort, IMHO).

Hour and a half later. My post had two responses. One positive, that actually said "outstanding post, probably fall on deaf ears". Haha. There other, I have "history" with, prompted me to respond. I read his response to that one and a response to his from someone else.....then those were all deleted. Haha, must've gotten ugly.

Actually I'm quite positive and agreeable outside of Tennessee Vols talk.

Fulmer mediocrity started me down the path to the dark side.

Fulmer fired-yes! ! ! Happiness at last.

Kiffin came in and I was excited about the future. Young, brash, aggressive. What could go wrong? Boom! Kiffin went Kiffin.

Dooley-anyone that didn't know how bad that would end is truly a blind follower.

I embraced my dark side. Full on Sith Lord.

Butch? I got almost the same feelings as with Dooley. Just felt he was in over his head. Every single year he goes out of his way to make me feel like I was correct in my feelings.

Maybe the prior years swayed me and made me be against Butch. Maybe his tired salesman act is just annoying to me.

I don't know, but I have a generally sunny outlook on other things.

His used car salesman persona certainly gets annoying but this deal about beating supposedly better teams and following them up with a "Cocks or Vandy" is especially troubling.

Had a phone call I had to take. Butch said to kiss his ass, Wylo. :)

As I said, I don't see you as one of "those" that constantly whines, even tho you do...haha, and does the same in "real life" I understand it's more of a "shtick" than anything. I know that because we've talked about it. I disagree with it, but I accept it and enjoy the banter.

That said, there have been times, like right after the Vandy loss, that you seem to be happier than if we'd won, and certainly more than you should have been. I know it's the "the worse Butch does, the sooner he's gone" thing, but......I digress.

After Vandy, I was in coping mode. I was as angry as any loss i can remember. I just went full darkness and looked at it as a final death knell and decided to feel that at least Butch was digging his hole deeper than he can climb out of.

I've never been happy to see Tennessee lose, even with Dooley at the helm.

I'll gladly admit to being hot headed and contradicting at times.

I know. That's why giving you crap sometimes is all in fun, even tho, sometimes it's true. :)

I noticed my like count was at 1 less than 3667. I was begging for a like. A couple turned up from somewhere so I deleted it.

Nobody digressing or eating tonight. Or maybe tired of my rambling.

You didn't miss much. Pretty fun couple of pages in the 10 year thread was about it. Nobody here or in the food thread.
