Jabari small injury exposed us. No other rb can pass block and that’s obvious. Uga knew this and started loading the box and blitzing often. If we don’t have pass blocking and clearly didn’t have any wrs on hot routes, makes sense that hooker spent most of his day in the grass.

Sampson would be such an asset if he could block

Running back is a huge weakness for us and it showed Saturday. Not only do our rbs no pass block well but we also don’t make guys miss in the open field and wright is really fumble prone.
They had used Fant in the backfield in previous games, with good success. That was not in the script last night. This is a great offense for a RB because of the open space the offense creates from the splits and deep Routes. Pulls away cheating backers and safeties. We just aren’t that talented at RB and Small is fragile.

This team has far exceeded the expectations of just about anyone. We lost at a hostile environment to a team with a lot of speed, strength, and depth. A lot of our schemes were taken away from us yesterday because of that. We can still make the playoff but must do so by licking our wounds and getting back to winning. That starts this week and Missouri is our next victim. Go Volunteers!!!!!

I swear though, all week I was thinking “as long as we didn’t get injuries right at the start of the game” and gosh darn it if that didn’t have to happen almost immediately. It never effin fails.

We will see UGA again in playoffs. Tennessee getting in.

U may be right Clemson went down & if LSU wins west & UGA beats ‘‘em that’s 3 Ls they’d be out TCU needs to lose maybe to Texas & Michigan OSU play, one will go down. If we finish strong no close calls we definitely have the resume Ws over Bama LSU & only Loss to #1. We are not in a bad place. GBO

I mentioned this in another thread. As much as I love CJH/Golesh as play callers, I don’t understand the unwillingness to call screen passes to the RBs. If we had countered the UGA rush/blitz on a few plays by drawing them in and throwing over the top, not only would it have likely resulted in a big gainer, it would also keep them in check on future downs and they’d be less likely to pin their ears back to come after Hendo. The threat of a screen pass is always a great neutralizer of super aggressive defensive play calling.

I thinking Sampson and Williams are not progressing well if Wright gets that much time. Hard to remember a guy that fumbles that much.

JH did not adjust the offense to what GA was doing. Got to beat Georgia. That puts us behind in the SEC East. We beat Bama. Great win but all Bama has to do is run the SEC West and they are back in the championship game.

I suspect small has been playing way less than 100% healthy for quiet awhile( last two seasons) and they’ve had to lean on him because the other backs aren’t coming along enough to give him a break. His shoulder is probably toast at this point. They keep losing their transfer portal backs due to issues. Wright has just recently started to shine and has potential. The other two cannot as of yet be counted on for any kind of protection. All to your point when Small goes out of the game. The kid has literally given up his health for Tennessee. It kills me when people don’t appreciate him.

Good point. Small is def our best RB pass blocker. That’s why Sampson hasn’t seen the field.

Agree. I’m still concerned over a one loss PAC 12 team getting in (Oregon or USC). Both are hot and lost early. I don’t think they play one another but Oregon plays a ranked Utah team and a ranked Oregon State @ State. USC has a home game Vs the Irish.

Hooker also held the ball way too long..half those sacks were on him. Plus he missed to wide open WR's for TD's plus Fant down the sideline....If he hits one or even 2 then who knows how it ends. This was on the Oline for the Penalties and half the sacks then Hooker for holding the ball, taking too many sacks and missing open WR's. This was his one bad game, hopefully the last. But GA was not a good match up. They have the corners to cover our receiver's and we can't cover a TE to save our life. We are lucky it rained, they could have hung 45+ on us but quit throwing the ball.

Very last play of the game Sampson was in at RB. Didn’t get his block and Hooker was sacked.

Apparently picking up the blitz for a RB is more difficult than one would think. Hopefully the young man will improve.

I didn’t notice him in the game at any other time. Not saying he wasn’t, I just didn’t notice. I just thought it was odd he was in there at that point.
What’s bad is when they do pickup the blitz they generally get blown back to where they give up a sack or hurry.
