Much of the reason that the offense was handcuffed and a shell of what it's supposed to be last season was due to Nico. I don't see that much of a regression this year to the offense (last year was just run it, run it, run it), and there very well could be improvement this year from the offense, especially the quarterback position. There's a possibility the offense could operate like it's supposed to with Nico gone. We will see.

Hmm. Maybe you’re not so spot on? Nico had basically one decent spot in the Bama game. Most of the decent competition it was the Sampson show. Nico padded stats vs inferior competition then disappeared against top teams. I do think he would’ve been much better but mediocre was about where he was last year.

Much like the Braves, Tennessee won in spite of Nico not because of him. Of course UT will suffer some growing pains after losing the qb that the offense was tailored towards but that doesn't mean it can't be tailored to fit the new starter. We probably aren't going to the playoffs again but we probably weren't going with Nico either.

Bama lost to Vandy last year. Even before these kinds of predictions weren't very "safe". It is even worse now that everyone's roster rolls every year.

I like these opinion threads. No one is right and no one is wrong. I think we’ll know a lot more when the Vols play the opener. Short of that, I’d say the floor is 6-6 and the ceiling is probably 8-4. I’m hoping the offense gels and can be run to max efficiency, unlike last year. That would also take some of the pressure off the defense. Until then, we’re left with nonsense opinions … like mine :)

And you have the chance of a PI call. We now don’t have near as much talent but I think Matthews is that guy too so let’s see if we open it up. I’m scared our coach will just run and have them same little passes and screens. I’m thinking about 7 or 8 wins but when Faizon gets here it’s game on and we can get a natty. If he doesn’t watch this season and be like why am I going here
