Exactly what all of the offseason experts thought we were. They said we were looking at 7-5. That was until the first game and we blew out NC ST. The way we manhandled them gave the experts/fans too much hope. The more I think it over the more I see that we are no worse or better than we were labled to be. I like everyone else had high hopes that our offense could work some folks over and break their spirits early giving us an extra win here or there. Although its not going to happen this year.
I just don't see why a lot of people think that hiring another coach is going to solve our problems.
1. Players will leave the program that were recruited by Dooley.
2. Another new staff will be put in place.
3. Another new scheme will be put in place.
All hiring a new coach would do is put us back another 2-4 years. And what if that new coach doesn't win in his 2nd or 3rd year...??? Then we are going to just keep doing this over and over and over. I'm tired of doing that. I still think Dooley has a chance.
GO VOLS!!!
I hope that he can win one of the games, but basing whether we fire him or not on those two games is a little unfair.
Alabama is the best team in the country and beating them is going to be extremely difficult.
Then we go to Columbia and have to play SC, one of the toughest defenses in the country to go along with one of the top running backs in the country...that also will be extremely difficult to do.
Ok give my something to show me why I should have faith in CDD. Something tangible, because we are not talking about blind faith when you are discussing football. Please back up your post.
Again it is not about O or D. I am saying overall we are not better off.
The offense itself isn't really "dramatically better," except insofar as we have the good fortune to have three potential first-round NFL-quality playmakers at the skill positions. Which is great, but it's also an anomaly -- no coach recruits well enough to maintain that talent level.
My point being that if we're trying to look at the team in find areas of progress under Dooley, we have to keep in mind that he has a flukishly good set of QB and receivers. He could coach 30 years, recruit well the whole time, and never have a group like this again. There's going to be a giant thud next year if two or three of those guys leave.
