Duke has shown some interest in Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe, who's in his second stint with the Vols. Cutcliffe was the head coach at Mississippi from 1999-2004. He took the Rebels to four bowl games and earned a share of the SEC Western Division championship in 2003 before being fired following a 4-7 season the next year. Tennessee may also seek to sweeten Cutcliffe's deal, which pays him $340,000 annually, to entice him to stay in Knoxville.

Why would Cut take a demotion from UT OC to Duke HC?

If he sticks around a couple more years, he probably gets CPF's office.

I like Cut... and he's less risk averse than CPF... and he would probably bring in a good young DC and OC.

I think you may be selling the guy short. It probably isn't incidental to his return that CPF has finally accepted the fact that you play young guys, take more chances on O, innovate with the no huddle, etc. Just consider the effect on CPF's decision making with Sanders vs Cutcliffe. Maybe Cut would retain the best of the old and complete the transition into the modern era.

The guy IS professional. It was he and not CPF or Chavis that went to learn the profession better from the Colts and Saints.

Coach Cut has said many times on the record that he wouldn't take a job where he felt like he couldn't win. I think Arkansas will come knocking for Cut, but Cut has already said he's not going somewhere like Duke, Baylor, etc...
