This has been a very entertaining thread, with all the jabbing back and forth with our SEC brethren. I love the Vols as much as the next fan however lets be truthful to ourselves. Yea we lost Hunter, Bray, and arguably the best DB when J Jackson was let go. There were several of the games that we lost, having Bray and Hunter may have not made that much of a difference.
Everyone wants to say how great Hunter is and how he was our best WR, truth is he only played in three games. Of all the games Hunter and Da'rick played in, Da'rick had more catches and touchdowns than Hunter. Hunter had more yards than Darick, but it takes touchdowns to win ballgames. Before you bash me on Hunter, I am not saying that he is not a stud, just not sold on him being the best wide out that we have. If you think about what Darick accomplished with him constantly being double covered and without Hunter, it could be said that Darick was the better wide out. It would have been scary to see what he could have done with Hunter and Bray there the entire season. Even without those two, Darick still managed to be all SEC, not too bad.
That being said, our problems last year was much more than injuries. We lacked a RBs Coach, Kicker/Punter Coach and most importantly a team playing with the desire or confidence to win every game. We have hopefully fixed the Coaching problems with our new hires and the attitude problem, well that is to be determined. This years team has all the talent in the world and if they can get that winning/no quit attitude, the SEC had better watch out.
So now that you have inserted "sanity", tell us what your legitimate expectations are. Developing your own hypothesis is much more difficult than just shooting holes in someone's theory.
Half of the D Line....multiple DBs...TE.....take your pick.
Maybe u mean newcomers? Cause i doubt any of the freshmen are in the two deep at either te or dline. And the only way we have any secondary guys playing as freshmen is if bonner and mcneil come out blazing because our depth and experience there is finally catching up and should be a solid group. Now if u wanna argue that our inexperience at rb will be a huge factor along with not getting more lbs then yes i would agree. That it would be hard to win the east but ur current argument is flawed at best.
Ya'll acting like we got killed by uga and Uscjr. Games were close. A turnover by the oppistion could have changed either game. Hell. Darick dropped a td against Uscjr that could've changed the outcome. Yes, Other teams are getting better. But so are we. Florida is gonna slip this year, loosing demps and rainey is gonna really hurt them. Can we win the east? Yes. Will we? Noone knows till september. So,Go big friggin orange!
Guys if you are not excited about this football team I can't help. We will have the best receiving core in the country, arguably the top qb in the SEC if not country, we do not lose a single offensive lineman and have plenty of depth for competition and these guys have been in this offense now for 3 years. I think we have the top offense in the SEC.
On Defense we have the defensive line that we upgraded on signing day. I will trade Jackson for McCuller and sentimore everyday of the week not to mention we have Everyone else coming back. Move on to linebacker and we lose Austin Johnson. He will be replaced by Lather who is one year removed from a 75 tackle season(upgrade). The two freshman fenom are back and will only get better. Move on to the seconday and again we lose no one. The only thing I fear is the transition to a 3-4 and if we will be set back as goergia was in 2010. Our defense kept us in games with UGA, USCjr, UF and KY.
With this being said CDD does not get my vote anymore if he can not get to at least 8 wins. He did an amazing job filling positions of need with juco players and in return his expectations are up. We may have missed on a few recruits but the ones we missed I don't think would have had an effect on the win loss column anyway. Anything less than a 9 win season next year and I will be disappointed. By the way I predicted a 6 win season this year and I also think if we are lucky enough to not lose any players to the draft after next year I think we make a run at the NC in 13. Go vols! I personally think we are now BACK!
Wanna win the east, hope we win the east, gotta beat N.C. State first.
While I don't disagree that Georgia will be tough to beat. I do think we were clicking when we had hunter on one side and Rogers on the other after the cincy game. So had we beat Florida SC and Kentucky the optimism would be we will compete for the east this year. A couple key injuries to our BEST players entirely construed the optimism of this football teams ability last year.

Tennessee will win SECE next year and 5 of the next 8. Georgia actually lacks masculinity, hence UGA -just deal with it. Florida had two of the most brilliant college coaches of modern time and freak show tim tebow, but now they will return to perennial suckitude. Alabama and Tennessee are the giants of the SEC and will be for years to come.
Our players are better, our coaches are better, are fans are better, and our tradition is better. Suck it, lame dog
