We are getting killed in the media

Congratulations, Wheaton. Your Ducks kicked our tails. :hi:

Thank you, sir. I think it was closer than the score suggests. Take away the special teams, defensive and garbage time scores and it would be at the spread.

Not that special teams scores, etc. don't matter. But, I think they're different than scores resulting from long drives.

As some said leading up to the game, UT is going to upset some teams this year. I believe that.

We don't have a prayer against the Gators. I don't even think the Ducks would either and you are 5 TD's and 5 PAT's better than we are.

They're loaded with talent and have been yawning through their first two games. They'll awaken and spank our team.

Maybe so. Personally, I think the Gators are very vulnerable this year and UT has enough working to give them a game.

Part of what makes it a frustrating season is that a solid UT squad (maybe 2001 was our last one) could challenge for the SEC this year.

This Florida team is beatable, but it won't be the Vols that pull off the upset. Another SEC team could be ripe to do it.

The Tide will win the SEC again this year. They're the team to beat, if you're playing for all the marbles at the end of the season against an SEC champ.

I mean i think we all knew that this year was going to be a struggle. but dang it hurts seeing us get slammed by the national media saying how "terrible" we are. you would think they would have a little compasion for us seeing all the program has been through... but then again thats the nature of the beast. lets hope we at least put up a good showing against florida or our recruting is going to take a MASSIVE hit...as always...god big orange!
the media cares nothing about compassion....they report what they want and how they want...they hang their coat-tails on a winner and ride the dog until its legs break. 3&4 years ago the espn commercials had urban meyer in them, the last 2 years have been saban....say anything to you? if you want facts and compassion dont go to the media!

It's one of the silliest things some of our fans do.

I disagree with that (the part about the Ducks not being able to compete with Florida).... I know SEC homers love to bag on the Pac-10 (and in most cases rightfully so) but the reality of the matter is that Oregon can play with (and beat) any team in the country right now. I really believe they would not only beat Florida but beat them badly. The Pac-10 isn't a one team conference any more. Stanford is the real deal, as are the Ducks and (cough,cough...) USC, although the Trojans are definitely on a downward slide....

It won't change until we win.

Look at Michigan, they sucked for a few years and CRR had to answer all the negative questions day after day. Now he's answering questions about his 2-0 start, beating Notre Dame and how his QB is playing like a heisman candidate.
Pretty sure Michigan did much the same thing last year. How'd that turn out?

Thank you for saying. Agreed. I think that Cal and Arizona are also under-rated so far this year.

The main reason ESPN "hates" us is that every time we get a mention of any sort, the most reactionary and defensive fanbase in the country (that would be us, folks....) starts breaking out the zippos and the mattresses... Who WOULDN'T want to pick on somebody that reacts the way a lot of UT fans do?

I just love the ut faithfull or should I say Florida faithfull.

It's a game and anything can happen but judging from the first two games I haven't seen anything out of Tennessee that would lead me to honestly believe we will win Saturday. True, Florida hasn't looked like their usual selves but they are clearly a better, more experienced team. Good teams usually beat mediocre (or worse) teams.

I disagree. I think they are very good defensively but just had a bad scheme in the first half. They made good adjustments and then shut us down.

They were quoted as saying they didn't make any adjustments during halftime or during the lightning break.

I have a hard time believing the Ducks sat around for over an hour watching the weather channel and not making any sort of adjustments for what UT was doing.... and then again during halftime. If that's so then Oregon had even less respect for Tennessee than I thought....

screw the media. i'm more concerned with 35 point blow outs than anything any of the talking heads or newsprint hacks could dream up. the fact is that the '10' vols suck, big time. beano cook or lou holtz couldn't be accused of anything more than honesty for saying that. rather than worry about bad press, i'm wondering just how we got so bad after all those years of supposedly good recruiting. even if dooley is the real deal (and the jury will be out on that for a couple of years at least), it's gonna be a long road back. what i'm looking forward to is turning on gameday some saturday morning and listening to these so-called experts smugly assure everyone that ole u.t. is due up for another shellacking, then tuning back in a few hours later and hearing them explain how their favorites got their butts handed to them. that's all i want to hear from that bunch.

On the local post-game show, Chip Kelly said that the lightning delay helped them have time to go over what went wrong at the start of the game, defensively.

I'm not sure if it was an adjustment. But, definitely more focused on making the correct checks for what the Vols came out with offensively.

And I heard Dooley just let his players relax.

The media does not favor programs who favor tradition. The backbone of maintaining tradition is conservative production and holding onto the winning "stuff". This does not sell. What sells is what is new, hip, or party-crashing. The media hates Ohio State as well. We're an antiquated, slow, rust belt team that needs to modernize or they will continue to "lose the big games" (though we are 5-3 in the BCS). The media gobbles up stories like Boise State, but knows it is good for ratings to take a lash at big programs with big fan bases that do not win (except Notre Dame. They love those guys.). If Boise State falls from favor in the next few years, we will not hear the same things about their program that we do about Tennessee or Ohio State. Nobody cares about them.

Good points. I didn't mean to imply that the Ducks would have no better chance again UF than we would, but that is about the way I reread my own statement.

I agree they'd be competitive with UF, but I still think the Gators would beat them with superior talent.

We're not really going to be much of a benchmark for comparing the two.

In your shoes against Florida, that'd mean we'd be at Autzen. I think the current Gators would be turned into luggage and boots, primarily because their QB sucks.

And we'd all be in some alternate reality wherein Florida actually travels outside of the Southeast.

I think our offense was too 1 dimensional, no threat in the passing game. They figured it out and shut down our run. I think if our OL was a little more experience and can give Simms a little bit more time, the ducks wouldn't look nearly as good as we made them look Saturday in the second half.

On a side note, just forget about the media. We as fans should be supporting our team. Some "fans" on this forum and even some on campus are putting down our team just as bad as the media. This is a down year, anyone that is rational knows that we won't be having a 10+ season like in the past. We showed in the first half that we can compete, give our young team some time and they'll learn to finish these games.

Simple solution... don't listen to them till we give them something good to say.

Put on a cd or something.
