I agree that we have had an incredible run of bad luck with injuries and Players that turned out were overrated. But I think Dooley deserves some criticism. Her were at least 3 times during the Uga game I bought we should go for it. Uga did 3 times on the first drive alone. Then, the reluctance to go away from the run is bard to understand. We know we are not very good at running the ball. But we are a pretty good Passing team. Yet there have been several drives in the second half of both fl and Uga where we run on 1st and 2nd losing yardage on both and end up facing 3rd and 15+. I just have trouble understanding that. Why not just do what we do. Air it out.

So If It's not broke don't fix it. So far the Vols have been a successful passing team.
Do you think the Vols should gone for it in the 4th down when Rogers did not make a catch close to the sideline in the Georgia game?

I was at the game, so I DVR'ed it. Last night I finally got the stomach to watch.

I get mad, and I say stuff that's ridiculous. I want everybody fired or benched or worse. I generally overreact and cuss non-stop for a few days. Let me tell you though, rewatching that game last night didn't sicken me with disgust; it gave me hope.

There were four missed interference calls in the first half that went Georgia's way. I'm not saying the fix was in. Bad calls happen, and you have to be resilient enough to weather the storm. However, if the refs had gotten those calls right, Tennessee had an effective game plan and would have taken at least a ten point lead into the half IMO.

A bad snap was the catalyst for a series of events that led to Georgia scoring two quick touchdowns in the third quarter, and it was just too much for us to overcome with only one real threat in Darick Rogers.

Looking down the road to next year, and I tend to err on the side of pessimism, so this is out out of character for me, but... this Tennessee team is developing a lot of talent. With Bray, Hunter, Rogers, Arnette, Rivera, and Lane back next year and an emerging special teams star in Young, the future looks bright.

Also, Georgia is a good team. They had a lot to prove, and we got their A game Saturday night. Georgia should have beaten USC except for untimely turnovers. It's true UGA got *****slapped by Boise, but Boise is a legit top five team.

Everybody says that Dooley hasn't won a single game in which he's been an underdog. Hell I say that every time we lose. I love the Orange. God it pisses me off soooo bad to lose every big game. Still though, Dooley kind of beat LSU last year. The damn officials blew it at the end of the game. They should have run off ten seconds. We all know that. And...Dooley also beat UNC in the bowl game except for more officiating BS. The NCAA changed the flippin rule because of how royally we got screwed. If we had won either of those games, especially the LSU game in Baton Rouge with Matt Sims, I think the criticism of Dooley would be significantly less.

Clay Travis made a good point this week, one that I've made to my friends several times. Some people just have bad luck. Nothing good ever happens to them. They are born under a bad sign, and they just never seem to catch a break. I am not going to blame Dooley for bad freakin' luck. I'm a grown man. I don't believe in all that hocus pokus.

I'm going to apologize in advance because I will probably be back on here Saturday night ranting and raving after another SEC loss. But as of this moment, I think Dooley is doing a good job, and I think Tennessee has a fighter's chance to upset at least one of the next four SEC teams we face. The most obvious candidate is USC with their young quarterback.

On the interference calls- isn't the official that was there to make/ not make the call the former Vandy tightend who thought that a football bouncing off Jabar Gafneys stomach was enough for possession years ago (Florida last minute win)??? The official was sanctioned and my friend who was at the game said this was that same jerk's first game back in Neyland since that incident. Anybody heard the same thing?

1 is a stretch, not because of how good those teams are, which they are good don’t get me wrong, but because of how depleted our team is. We had our best, all-american DB dismissed before the season, our best LB hurt before the season, and are without our best WR, best QB, and temporarily without our most experienced RB. We cannot expect good things... no team would, not just us

I am not so sure that Hunter, although good is our best WR. Statistically speaking, he and Da'Rick was pretty even through the two games Hunter played. Hunter had 1 more catch, a little over a hundred more yards, however Rogers had a few more TDs.

Before the season started, if we knew we wouldnt have Hunter for the Fla and UGA games and then no Bray for the LSU, Bama and USC game then people would have been saying how bad our luck is not how bad our team is. We have a lot of young talent and another great recruiting class coming in and...we will have Hunter and Bray at 100% next season. Yea it sucks now but I'm excited about the future!!

This is what I keep saying. People expectations got jerked up when they saw how DR, JH and TB could play and then forgot to correct expectations when we lost the 2 most important pieces.

While the "parts" are both good to great it's the sum of them as a tandem that makes them who they are. Look at the Pats when they didn't have a go to guy besides Welker and they are a pretty deep and skilled team.

Yeah, but please look on the positve side of things, I don't think we've EVER had a 3rd and 57. LOL. If that's not an SEC/NCAA record, it should be.:eek:lol:

That's a great post, I'm the same way but yer right we are close we just have to find a way to dig deep when all else is against us and find a way to win. That's what this team has to learn and it's common with very young teams, it's the hardest part of building a program...how to win. We still have talent and depth
issues, those won't be cleared up for two more classes but even over talent,
learning how to win, how to play with
great effort every play, every down no matter the score is what will lead to
victory. Has the Dooley been perfect? No
but I don't think anyone can question his
commitment and passion to bring
Tennessee back to glory. The guy is
fighting his guts out each and every week
and all off season for one goal, bringing
us back to greatness.

I understand what you are saying. Rogers and Hunter remind me of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin when they were together in Arizona. One is a possession receiver (Rogers/Boldin) and the other is the deepball/leaper. I believe both are extremely good at what they do, however, I think Hunter is harder to replace than Rogers would be. Homerun guys like Hunter are few and far between. It is much easier to find a solid possession receiver than a guy like Hunter that can leap over anyone and be a gamechanger. As good as Rogers is, he does not have the speed, hands or leaping ability of Hunter. Therefore, I would consider Hunter our best receiver, but not by much. What made them both so good was having each other, but I think if Rogers had gone down instead, he would be easier to replace than Hunter because he’s a possession receiver. There’s a reason they had 25 different places specifically for Hunter for the Florida game... it’s because he was our number 1 WR.

I promise you there is no one that is more frustrated about what going on up on the hill more than I am but I do feel we are so close to being a really good team. I think the talent is there, we just gotta learn how to win. What I mean by that is we are always in games but when it comes time to make a game changing play we always give up the play instead of making it (ex. 2010 fake punt by UF, INT for TD against Oregon, 15 yard pickup on 4th and 14 against LSU, missed tackle on alshon against SC, missed PAT against UNC, 2011 unable to get brantley on pressure that resulted in long TD for UF). We have got to be able to start being the team making those plays. Good teams overcome bad calls and injuries and we havent proven we can do that yet. Also we have got to get back to being a physical football team, we have looked soft in just about every game this season so we need to learn how to play every single play as a mad team. And last we have got to stop using the fact that we are young as a crutch because alot of teams are young and start using that as a stepping stone. This team is on the verge of being really good but we gotta start doing theses thing to be successful!

I think we will be fine, and our future looks brighter than it has for some time now. This program has been through a lot, and if you look at other programs that were down, it took some time to get them turned around too. This program was a big beached ship that has finally been ungrounded; we just need to give a chance to get it turned around. We are on track and we will get there. We will soon be getting all those bad calls back. Everything comes in full circle. Our fan base and donor’s demands greatness as they should (just look at the balance sheet), but we still need to give it a chance before we start lashing out at our players (have been through alot); and maybe the coaches (got put in a tough situation). The refs are a different story so give them hell!

A lot of what you wrote is what does not give me hope. Bad snaps for two years don't give me hope. But its not the players or Dooley's fault, Stone is young and Dooley doesn't have any experience or talent. It takes experience and talent to teach a center to snap the ball or it takes a coach 4 years to figure out Stone can't snap the ball and maybe we should try someone else? Just sayn?

You think if there was someone else available, the coaches wouldnt give him a chance? not like they can just go get a D1
center down at costco. Just sayin.

Let me just speak for most of the posters on here...we are just tired of waiting... Hamilton waited too long to pull the plug on Fulmer......then the Kiffin thing….there goes another 2 years....recruiting means so much to the ROSTER of a SEC team that missing a year let along 4 years de-pleaded our TEAM ROSTER...but I think Dooley is the coach to get it done...for him to step in late and to keep some key performers like BRAY...DaRick...Hunter...was key to getting it started...VOL NATION...I know we are just so impatient waiting but as CDD says KEEP THE PATH...its going the right direction....

I have a gut feeling we beat LSU, ARK, and USC.... You can laugh if you want to but I have faith. I think our running game opens up at LSU and we rush for 200 yds. and beat them at their on game. That games opens our eyes and we come together as a cohesive team and barely lose to ALA and then press on through ARK and USC to a 6-3 record! i know yall will think im hittin the crack pipe but I have this feeling that tells me this is whats gonna happen. I believe deep down thats we are about to shock the SEC!!!

On this point, here's something that everyone always misses:

In the last four years, under three different coaches, Tennessee has exactly ONE win as an underdog. That was by Phil Fulmer in 2008, when we went to Nashville and took down Vanderbilt.

No, I'm not kidding. That's the last time we've won as an underdog. Kiffin never did it either.

But we're almost there!

I can see it in our kicking game, our negative-yardage running game, and our one-turnover-per-game defense.
