We also have an offense problem…..

Well the knock on this offense has been it's simplicity.. Good teams adjust and Tennessee hasn't had a good counterpunch.. Definitely something they're going to have to address..

Lack of misdirection, reverse/speed reverse, counters, middle screens, hot routes, waggles.

No answers for Vandy putting 8 in the box and could not make them pay so they kept doing it. We didn't seem to know what to do because we were confused about who was coming. I don't if it was JA or the sideline. This was talked about on the 104.5 morning show.

No one had played them that way all year. It was something they obviously weren't prepared for..

Many of us are upset with the defense and want something done but we also have an offense problem that must be fixed…..in the 2nd half. We scored less in the 2nd half in 7 of our games. Why? Many of us complained that Heupel takes his foot off of the gas.

OPP. 1st Half 2nd Half
Syr. 31 14
ETSU. 48 24
UGA. 21 20
UAB. 42 14
MSST. 17 24
ARK. 17 17
KY. 35 21
OK. 10 17
NMST. 21 21
FL. 31 0
VAN. 21 3

Total. 301 188

Some might argue that some of this gap is caused by allowing 2nd and 3rd’s to play in the 2nd half against ETSU and UAB but even then, it appears to me that Huepel takes his foot off of the gas and doesn’t allow his 2’s and 3’s to ball out. What are your opinions? Any concern’s?
I don't believe it is an Offense problem but a play calling problem and, as others noted, our Defense can't stop the sisters of the poor and allows long, clock eating drives.

Intentional slowdowns for us were, Syr. UAB, and FL. The other games were competitive and output was more to do with limited snaps vs. limited output.

Concerns?

It's obvious. It's not "letting the foot off the gas'.

It's not having the guts to finish the job.
Period. Same ole Tennessee Vol culture...
It's not about being nice. They choke.

Then the already PLIABLE defense snaps!

My problem with the offense is the play calling being adjusted to the defense and that really explains the biggest problem with our lack of 2nd half scoring.

For example, this weekend, we kept throwing that wide receiver screen, which I don’t have a problem with because it usually will get at minimum 5 yds. Well Vandy jumped it and we never went back to it.

What should have happened is the offensive coordinator should have had a light bulb 💡 go off and make him think 🤔 “we should fake that out there and do a go with that blocking receiver. Na, the hell with that, might over complicate things, let’s just keep letting Vandy whoop our azz

Hot routes should be standard in almost any offense. It was mentioned Georgia ran pressure packages. You should have a package where you get the ball out quick. They only have 3 players outside the box in the snap. When is the last time you saw a reverse or a well designed one?

The only offensive game planning is scripted. By that, only the first three series is scripted.

If we’re not up 21-0 in the first and the opposing team is not turning the ball over playing catchup, we’re in big trouble.
