We all know the problem!

This game reminded me of the Florida games from the mid - 90's ... I think the running game could have been better however, we were put in terrible positions in the first half. Florida had a ton of momentum and we just could not get anything to go our way. I think if Hunter would have been in then it would have opened it up a little more. Mostly because they would have had to deal with 2 very good receivers instead of one. All that said we have a very long season remaining and we have some guys that are willing to fight and put it all on the line when EVERY thing is going against them!

started to post this after the cincy game.if any can remember or care to go back and watch it again.when we went for it on those 4th and short and on goal line when bray sneaked it.the o line fired off the ball and pushed.take notice on other running plays.when we had lineman with no one lined in front of them, when the ball was snapped on a lot of running plays they seemed to just stand there and wait for players to some to them.i am no football guru but i thought you had to be the aggressor or instigate the contact when trying to force the run.idk, maybe things have changed and there is a different philoshy now?:unsure:GO VOLS ! we are young and we will get better, trying to be patient.

That's what makes me wonder if it is schematic. Someone was talking about how Cincy's coach said that UT's scheme made pass plays look like run plays... wonder if whatever causes that also causes the run game problems?

I agree but whose fault is it? Coaches, RB's, talent on the line, youth on the line, or some combination of all 4? I'd almost rather see both FB's for a known 2 than what we are getting.

All the above IMO.

Bingo - sprint draw offense. No counters, no traps, no misdirection, no drive blocks, no running game.

our oline got put on there backside so many times today. Stone got owned, and so did the entire line. our defense did a good job. they kept us in the game, and is the only reason we lost by 10 instead of 50. We got a hard road ahead, bama or lsu would've killed florida today. i hope somethin happens with the run game or hunter gets healed over night.

What I noticed that may be the reason to our running woes is the terrible speed of our o-line players. Watching the interior linemen try to get out on pulling plays was like watching Charlie Weis trying the 100 yard dash through knee deep water. Half of those plays we ran both today and against Cincy the running back hit the correct hole (the gap the play was designed to be run through) either at the same time or before the guard could pull around and plow the way though that hole. THe other issue I saw was on those pulling plays once the guard vacates his gap and pulls to run block the center and tackle do not pinch and close that hole and a few times there was a defensive player shoot that gap and hit the RB as soon as he got the hand off. This may be why we dont run alot of screen passes too, because those guys cant get downfield quick enough to throw blocks. I dont think this is something the coaches can quick fix (apart from lots of laps every day and more cardio but then we lose some of the weight advantage we have which comes in handy for pass blocking) whic may lead to this being a long season trying to move the ball on the ground.

and I don't understand that when you're offensive line is young and can't overpower or zone block with any effectiveness.

Yep. A 1-dimensional team will always have problems against good defenses. This will always be true. It's just so disappointing that when Tennessee finds great talent in one position, they lack elsewhere. All comes down to recruiting.
