We actually match up well with Alabama's defense

I know folks are trying to make them out to be a boogeyman but we've already faced a better defense. Florida is actually built to stop our type of offense. We run a spread rushing scheme that is predicated on the QB zone read. We're not trying to run power up the middle from a pro style scheme. That is what Georgia, Arkansas, and LSU run. It's what Alabama is built to stop. Florida had the faster more athletic defense and Dobbs still ran all over them.

People tried to act like Texas A&M was Alabama's worst nightmare because they're a high scoring spread team. However A&M doesn't have a running QB. It's athletic running QBs that have given Alabama's defense the most problems.

If we run Dobbs about 20 times like we did against Florida and Georgia, we'll have a chance.

Offensively I'm not worried. Defensively I'm worried. I think losing Tuttle is a bug blow for this game in particular.

We are getting run over yall. Have you not seen our dbs tackle in space and get beat over the top? Looks like another 38-6 type game; which I remember back a bit vs bammer. IF Butch can get 6-8 good linemen this next class we'll be good enuff in 2 years to play with bama. Saban has the top class the last 9 years. NINE YEARS! You cant recruit and develop that in 3. Be realistic. We catch them at a good time But we aint winning in Tuscaloosa Saturday. Bamas got too much to lose; besides having the better talent. Ask yourself : Could UT go to Kyle Field and whip A&M? Take your time.

38-6? It was closer last year with less talent and less experience but ok.

Maybe not whip but we could definitely beat them. Don't let the final score fool you. A&M was driving down 20-28 in the second half before 2 pick 6s finished them. The game was closer than the final score.

Maybe you forgot when we went to the Swamp and were up 27-14 in the 4th quarter. A team that some think might make the playoff after they performed well against LSU without Will Grier.

Don't let the record fool you. This is a good football team. We won't get blown out in Tuscaloosa unless we help Alabama by turning the ball over like A&M.

I agree. Our offense is exactly the type of offense that tends to give Bama's D problems.

But I also agree with Catbone that our defense is going to struggle. Outside of LSU, Bama may have the best run game in the country. Tuttle is a huge loss, as he's been one of our best players on run defense.

That's why I think Dobbs, Hurd, et al, are going to need their best game of the season to win at Bama. I think we're capable of winning, but the offense is going to have to play lights-out.

Yeah he's been getting better I feel but Henry and that OL will be a heck of a test for our DL

Not our coach and this high school half spread offense.

Tennessee can only do damage if Dobbs breaks some decent runs, because the pass game will be limited by Bama's defense.

Our offense, as all offenses do, starts with the Oline and Bama's Dline will steamroll our guys. Hall and Jones will be really good for years to come, but don't expect a good second half from those guys against Georgia to translate into winning the battle in the trenches on the road against one of the better D lines in the country.

I'm expecting a blowout until I'm proven wrong. That way it's a tad less painful if we lose, which is likely.

I agree. I said about the same thing in a thread a while back asking if Jones and Hall should start the rest of the season and I got blasted for my opinion. They're good, very good, but they're still young and have a lot of game-speed learning to do.

What is the difference between our spread and the Ohio State spread?

Ohio State scored 42 points on Bama. That would be nice.

I agree with you, OP. You, too, D4H. Gruden's agent: Don't get carried away regarding OSU's talent over UT's. Yes, Butch runs a very similar offense to the Buckeyes, and our last two classes have out-*'d theirs. While we're comparing talents, Mister Dobbs would run their offense just as well as their boys. Urbie would love to have him up there. If Josh connects on some medium to long range shots down field from the get-go, then the speed around the edges and qb/rb running game will keep bama's defense on its heels. Our defense will be just fine as long as they aren't gassed from a lack of time consuming drives from our offense. Our two achilles' heels are a lack of depth (O & D lines) and missed/dropped passes by our guys. Lots of 1st downs and successful passing and catching will allow Mister Dobbs to be acclaimed SEC player of the week...again. As Columbo would say: "Uh...just one more thing." Our Vols will obviously need to make fewer mistakes and not give away points and the zebras will have to display more objectivity than those who called the UGA game. With all this in front of us, I honestly don't care for the odds, but odder things have happened. Good post, OP.

Have you seen Tennessee try to run that offense when it mattered?

It usually ends poorly.

Urban runs a deadly spread. Even with poor pay this year from the qb, they keep winning.

Every person here has seen the Tennessee offense unable to even get plays off properly.

I don't understand the spread offense. At first, I thought it was just a gimmick that would come and go. But of the last nine National Champions, I think at least four ran the spread..(Florida twice, Auburn, Ohio State). Plus Oregon has been in the NC game twice running that system. So, I guess it is here to stay.
