We’ve got to get past the idea

that all of our former 4-star recruits are SEC caliber. I don’t want to call any names, but there are several familiar names on our roster who haven’t been consistent playmakers and many of us (myself included) have been holding out hope that they’d turn into SEC talents. We were wrong
Couldn’t agree more. Not just 4 stars, but a couple of 5 stars who simply can’t play anywhere near a high SEC level. We talent in spots, but overall nowhere near where the recruiting rankings suggest....nowhere near.

Think about it....in the last 4-5 games we’ve played dating back to last November, we’ve been badly “out-athleted” by Missouri, Vandy and now WVa, 3 teams whose recruiting rankings the last 4 years haven’t been in the same stratosphere as ours.

They're soft. No doubt about it. The Dline and most of the Oline gets zero push. The CBS are soft. I haven't seen ut deliver a hard hit in 2years. We need a good recruiting clAss and start cutting the others . drew Richmond and kongbo should be in diapers . they suck...hope they come around but if they haven't by now, the odds are against them .

This is why I don’t put much stock into star ratings and recruiting. I’m not saying ratings mean nothing, but they certainly don’t amount to what many people want to believe they do.

Right!!

All one has to do is look at how many 3 star players are balling out in the College Football Playoff every season...oh wait...

Out fan base sucks. We disrespect our players and give them reason to doubt themselves. Do your job as fans stop worrying about ecred. I see a guy post he tsreb 8-4 and some dozen replies NO WAY 7-6 st best. Some stupid stupid posts like that every day This generation is so dumb desperate for ecred they lower our expectations every year and our players live up to it. These are kids and that’s parenting 101. We became a powerhouse because we had fan support. Even when Alabama sucked in the 90s they still expected 10 wins. Do your job as fans and support the team. We have the talent but they have no confidence cause every day they read here our fans saying the suck. Our fans are killing the program.

What you got to lose? Telling them every year how much the suck isn’t working. It’s a science fact if you tell a child they are bad they are more likely to be bed. Expect the best ,accept the results. We didn’t beat Miami in 85 or NDame in 78 because we had more talent. We had support. I hope some of you support your kids better than you do our team. Telling a teenager he can’t do something whether it’s graduate from college or beat Alabama is guaranteed to lower the chances he does either. That’s fact.

Pruitt was absolutely right to call out our fans after spring game. We are a terrible fan base that doesn’t support or believe in our team. WVU had less talent but expected to win. Look at the Florida board game predictions, not a lot of people scared there to support their team. I suspect some of you don’t know what it means to be a fan. You simply post here for own self validation because you are failures in your own life cause your parents told you what you couldn’t do.

Yet half of those "busts" go on to be NFL talents. So ... I think it had more to do with player development under Butch.

We may be a long-suffering fan base, but Pruitt can't fix everything overnight.

At this point, I wouldn't look at stars, I would look at the numbers they generate in the weight room. I say this only half-blue-font. Our guys looked small.

Deduct half a star for every year under Lyle's tutelage and you would be really close to their actual rating.

Don't y'all ever get weary of blaming everything on Butch? at some point, players gotta make plays I saw some good plays yesterday--We got a dang good QB, receivers and running backs. We gonna be ok.

it is rare that players come into programs at the D-1 level and play at their high school rating level. They have to be developed, even if a 5 star. Few are SEC players the day they sign. It takes months of coaching to begin the evolution to SEC player... the staff the last five years failed to develop and actually coaches players into even lower level of talent.. the quicker approach for the current staff could be the players they bring in producing rather than trying to rehab or develop most of returning players

We know many, if not most, of these guys have talent. Some have heart, the it factor, etc. What they seem to lack is a common agenda. The team has many finesse blockers from the Jones era, along with zone corners, physical freaks and so on and so forth. It's just not a team of sameness, yes, a made up word. There are just too many mismatched parts right now, and many of the parts that do go together are young and learning their job. Look at Jones era, we recruited Trey, obviously a more traditional lineman, along with Richmond, almost the exact opposite. Hurd, a better I formation back stuck in the read option. The list goes on and on for the island of misfit toys. Until there are more players that fit the system and fit each other, we will have problems. Lots of talent that doesn't work together has never worked at any level or sport. Patience is all we can have. I see the season progressing to more and more Pruitt players on the field and those talented misfits earning bench time.

We talk about the lack of talent (I agree to a point), yet at least 11 players from this past year made it to NFL camps. Some programs are doing better with less IMO.

LOL last year everyone said "lack of talent and depth is no longer an excuse".
Exactly my point. Most of us were wrong and it’ll take a couple years of turning over the roster for us to compete again. We are in bad shape. I think players like Dobbs, Sutton, and Kamara covered some of our deficiencies but now that they’re gone it’s obvious how far behind we are. Particularly on the OL and defense.

Did Kongbo play?

They did a pre-game on King Kongbo noting his lifting prowess. Better get into weight lifting as soon as possible. he has only had his name called about 3 times during a game in 2 years plus of action. I'd like to see a game replay focused only on him to see what he is doing out there.

Exactly, every week of every college football season you see teams with only 2 and a couple of 3 stars play way better than us. No difference yesterday than if Butch was still here.

At this point I'm wishing that Butch had just let him go when he threw his Twitter tantrum. He's a waste of a scholarship, and the time an effort expended to try and get him even to a high school level of effectiveness could have been used on other players.

No doubt, but those are stable programs with deeply rooted playbooks. It’s why teams like Washington and TCU have done so well. Just look at UGA... they took a step back in Smarts first year now they appear to be rolling.

They did but they also got to a bowl game if I remember correctly we are closer to 3-9 than going to a bowl game.

Wow one bad quarter and out come the pitchforks.

1st game as a head coach
1st game as an OC
1st game in a 3/4
1st game in a new O
Weather delay at the half killing mojo
Playing a ranked team
Playing a Hiesman contender QB
Forced to play 3 true freshman at DB

Had a really bad 3rd quarter after a 1.5 hour weather delay and y'all are ready to burn it to the ground.

No leaders on the field.................

There is plenty of opportunity for leaders to step up now .... and I believe they will ... imo the next few games we will see the mentality, character and leadership characteristics of this team slowly begin to shift for the better .... we're coming out of a deep hole

I believe this also.
This will be the difference in a winning or losing season.
