Way to go VolNation,

Yeah. All off-season we were hearing about 4-3 personnel defense and the "Star" position.

That set was almost never run.

Yeah Butch is hella controlling.

First example is Debord.

Was just about to post this. He hasn't run his classic defense. Does that mean this isn't his new defense? No. However, it is worth noting that something changed.

Who was to be the "star"? Maybe that person was one that got hurt and no one else qualified.

The defense was riddled with injuries and when that happens a DC must adjust - running a defense you don't have personnel to run yields bad results.

Shoop may be heading his own way out. I didn't realize how controlling butch is.

This is very troubling. My father who is a very successful business man says " I am successful because I surround myself with smart people who I let do their work and they succeed. " My Dad's a smart guy. Butch should do the same. Let Shoop do his thing, I felt like he did a lot during the second half of a lot of games this years. His adjustments were great at times.

Who cares? If a recruit uses anything posted on a message board to influence his decision to commit, then we dont need him.

Is that inside info?
Shoop was hired to beat Florida, he did his job in the 2nd half. If an assistant coach can't handle being an assistant, get your own team.

It was a 12+ hour interview, if you can't get a feel for what it's gonna be like working for Butch then Shoop is a nerd genius with no common sense. Not a lot of hurt feelings when he finished the reg season like he did. Give up 45 to Vandy is pitiful. Play some zone on the back end and run a true 4-3 up front(oh wait out top 5 LB were out and our top 3 DL were out too), if you win or lose by the blitz, well sometimes you lose.

If Shoop leaving is speculation based off how the season turned out then:

Get it together guys!

Go Vols!

Huh? Butch is not a defensive minded coach like some others. If you are going to make changes on D and hire a DC with a track record like Shoop, then why wouldnt you give him control of the defense? Do you really think Butch told Shoop, hey man you can come to UT and be the DC but I control everything and any defensive changes have to be approved by me? I seriously doubt it. I think Butch used his snake oil and lied to Shoop. I think he told him that he could have control when in reality he had no intention of giving Shoop any control.

We have heard different rumblings about how much of a control freak Butch is. I think if Butch would just let Shoop run the defense, it would get better.

I don't. I believe the injuries rendered the defensive schemes that Shoop would typically use ineffective and he had no answers to the problem.

That's right baby! We stay in the news!

Go VOLS!

Just another reason to commit and become the next Vol for Life Legend!

You know what it is!

My point is as a recruit how would it look if the fanbase was more "positive" in the face of a disappointing season. For Alabama fans if they don't win a title every year they're pissed. A lot is expected but a lot is given. I would want a fanbase and a program that wants to win it all every year, not one that rationalizes an 8-5 or 7-6 season as a moral championship campaign. Being upset isn't always a bad thing. No one would ever get better if they got over losing.

I haven't seen anyone blaming the players, other than Hurd for quitting or being cancer. The coaching staff is getting all of the ire, most of it is deserved. I can imagine that recruits care more about whether or not they are going to improve under a coach, whether they fit the coaches system, how much playing time they are going to get, and how much playing at a particular school will help them get into the NFL than what fans who spend their time arguing on a message board post.

We are all flattered by the over-inflated sense of importance that you have ascribed to yourself and the rest of us though.

In the end, regardless of what is said, we are filling Neyland every Saturday, and making a good showing at the away games to support the team.
