Living out in LA, every once in a while I run into a Vol fan, and inevitably we bond instantly and talk about getting together to watch a game. Today my wife was at a gas station and noticed a man with a black shirt with the orange power T who was looking at her. He'd noticed the Vols licesne plate holder and introduced himself & chatted with her. His name was Reese. Real nice guy, turns out he lives nearby, and he invited my wife to bring me and the family over to his family's house for any of the games this season since he always gets the Vols on pay-per-view and is always excited to see vol fans in LA. She calls me to tell me, and says, "He said his granddad coached at UT." Me: "What's his last name?" Wife: "Nilan, Naylin or something like that?" Me: "Um...you don't mean NEYLAND do you!?!" Wife: "Yeah, that's it!" Me: "As in, GENERAL ROBERT REESE NEYLAND?! As in, NEYLAND STADIUM?!" Wife:"Holy crap!" :w00t:

He gave her a card with his contact info, so we're for sure going to take him up on it. Hopefully I can post some cool family history stuff for you Vol history buffs.

What I want to know is when did he offer her to come to his house? Before or after she mentioned she had a husband?:p

haha, yeah that's what I was thinking at first as she was telling the story, too! Except once I found out who it was, I pretty much just star struck and forgot all about the fact that he might have been hitting on my wife! :)

It's all good. You just have to weigh your options.

Man that is so cool. Hope you and your family have a good time. A chance like that doesn't come around everyday. GO VOLS!

I hope he's not secretly A murderer making that up to lure people into his death chamber.

Yeah, I'm going to be THAT guy.

Got home tonight and the wife gave me more details about meeting Reese Neyland. He's in his late 50's early 60's, about to be a granddaddy himself, is a pastor at a nearby church, and he said he and his wife, Mary Kay, are always excited to meet fellow Tennesseans. He was real low key about exactly who his grandfather was, not bragging or anything, just genuine and excited to meet another Vol fan. She said he was serious about the invite, even insisting that we take him up on it. So, yeah, I'm thinking he wasn't putting the moves on the old lady, and I won't have to worry about the whole axe murderer thing either, lol. I'm thinking we'll set it up for the Georgia or South Carolina game.
