Watching the tape in slow-mo...

When our CB blitzed, we got burned. I meant blitzing with more LB's not CB's. I felt like our MLB never if ever blitzed or faked a blitz

I think our CBs had a hard enough time covering their WRs. Asking them to be on an island while we blitzed all day would have cost us a lot more.

I don't think they are slow afoot. I think, at this time they are slow to understand where they need to go. Speed is there if info about the youngsters is correct. But football instincts seem to be weak. I saw some freshmen wearing out receivers and runners in other games. Made them look like track men. What is their speed afoot? Are they that much faster afoot than our guys, I doubt it.
Someone gets it!

1. Will Grier should definitely be a Heisman candidate - some of his throws were PERFECT.
2. Majority of the time we called a corner blitz, we got burned. (2/3 of their TD's)
3. Do really have mediocre CB's? I kept seeing Abernathy and Flowers as CB's.
4. Our SAM LB seem to be on the line too much than I could handle.. it really bothered me for some reason.
5. I honestly couldn't see if Kongbo had many reps cause of the camera angle (maybe he wasn't a factor based on WV offense?)
6. When WV had 3 bunch WR set and we had our MLB alone they 90% called a run play (2 were draws)
7. I honestly can't tell if our defensive scheme just doesn't do well with offense that run 3-4 WR's, or it's our play calling.
8. I felt like we should've Blitzed more.
9. The play where it looked like we had a SPY was where their RB took a wheel route wide open for a TD.
10. Grier seem to know which WR to pass to in every situation. I don't know if we disguised our defense enough.
11. On the offensive side, our TE's need MAJOR work on their blocking. Wolf is better inside, but out in space it's cringe worthy.
12. Why did our OC not call any TE specific plays if our blocking isn't great?
13. At least to me, it felt like we called a lot of the same formation as if we were setting up for the BIG PLAY.
14. Everytime we used some sort of motion we gained yards.
15. This isn't a knock on Tim Jordan, but majority of his big runs were in a specific set where he had a blocker. ISO???
16. I don't think we called a single draw.
17. Helton seems to take awhile to figure out what works best, but somehow goes away from it.
18. Not sure why we didn't have JG roll out more? Or call specific run plays for him.
19. With our current WR roster, I feel like we should have more 3-4 WR sets
20. People complain about our O-line, but I think it's our TE's that are messing it up for us. We need to utilize them as receivers instead.
Good read . 👍

12. I noticed Helton used more 20 personnel later on in the game. I agree that if you don't like the tight end blocking then you might as well have them running routes.

I watched it in slow motion on Saturday from 230-730pm central time. Anytime we had the ball and anytime they had the ball we were in slow motion

#20 yeah because our center was having such a great game with his blocking

The more I rewind the tape...Kennedy fixed initial hiccups right immediately....and then it was #70 RT Ryan J. seem to have gotten lost, almost on every other run play.
Yes, Johnson had a few assignment busts that made it look like Kennedy was at fault.

We're simply young on defense, especially in the secondary which led to Grier and his WRs burning us multiple times. Misfit personnel on the DL leads to zero pressure with the pass rush. The offense is overall pretty weak as to be expected. Guarantano gave us hope in his ability going forward in the WVU game, but that was about the only positive on offense. Oline needs to be restocked with better talent and honestly our WRs our serviceable but not playmaking gamechangers out there. Jordan ran hard, but we also need a couple big bruisers like Bama had with Richardson and Ingram back there, especially if we're gonna play it that conservative with the QB.

JG played really well from the pocket...very accurate overall. He missed a couple throws rolling out, so probably why we didn’t do it more.

I wanted us to use the TE more in passing game, but sounds like we couldn’t block without max protection.

Exactly. Our OL was getting beat off the ball so we were in max protect all day. Yet they STILL got pressure. WVU was also inmax protect most of game and we didn’t get pressure on the QB. That was the difference in the game. Down the field passing routes take time to develop. When you don’t have time, you have to go with the quick hitters. Hopefully we can fix the line on both sides of the ball.

Yes, Johnson had a few assignment busts that made it look like Kennedy was at fault.

There was definitely some communication problems on the O-line early in the game. The FIRST play, Johnson went out to run block and everyone else was pass blocking. He (Johnson) went to the second level while everyone else slanted, leaving the DT a free lane to JG which almost resulted in a turnover.

This game was a very good teaching experience and may open the eyes of the "Stars" that now have to play real football!

#9 was Buchanan's blown assignment. He flowed inside with the TE, and the RB came out the backfield unnoticed until the ball was thrown and then it was too late. The DB's don't see the field well, or know their responsibilities in coverage. This is not his 1st rodeo. I could have excused Taylor, but Buchanan has some starts and experience under his belt.

If only our coaches weren't so dumb and took our advice on here. And people may not want to comment on either scheme because most all of the time you aren't right especially when you comment on the defense. This is a good staff, give them time. Flame away.
