Watching the tape in slow-mo...

In most vocations when you have a problem of the magnitude we face, you usually call in an expert. Who are ours and where have they been. Maybe this staff given time will find these experts. For now they just have to keep working with what they've got.
Maybe we should call HEP

I thought I was watching in slo mo as well but actually our corners are just that slow..

I don't think they are slow afoot. I think, at this time they are slow to understand where they need to go. Speed is there if info about the youngsters is correct. But football instincts seem to be weak. I saw some freshmen wearing out receivers and runners in other games. Made them look like track men. What is their speed afoot? Are they that much faster afoot than our guys, I doubt it.

18. This point baffled me. I like the pitch sweeps to keep the crashing defense a little honest but rolling out JG would have been very effective to take a little heat off the pocket. UG and Bama will hurt the kid if they don't do something to protect him better.

Go back and slo-mo focus on Brandon Kennedy (55) starting with the first play. He got beat so bad the first few series it almost looked like he meant to miss the DT. I didn't slo-mo the second half so, I don't know if he figured anything out.
Here is the key to what you and others are saying about speed or lack there of.
"I don't know if he figured anything out or not"
Slow yes, mentally. Afoot? We will see after he figures "IT" out.

Here are some things I saw after rewatching on Monday

1. O-line had some miscommunications to begin the game that really blew up a couple of our first drives but got much better as the game went on.
2. We didn’t get a lot of rush on Grier but much of that was because he made quick decisions and got rid of the ball very quickly. Their offense is a well oiled machine. Our DTs actually played pretty good and got some pressure but we couldn’t get him down.
3. There were lots of holding on WV that was not called. And they called a formation penalty on us but let WV get away with same later on.
4. We hare a couple of DBs that probably can’t cut it in this scheme. Need to play Taylor, Thompson, Flowers, and Jackson more and hope they improve as we go.
5. We had opportunities. We were in WV territory 4 times i think in first half and only came away with 7 points. Need to clean up bad plays that put us in 3rd and long situation.
6. Had momentum and ball on WV 40 yard line down 3 with 4 minutes before halftime and couldn’t capitalize. The last few play calls of that drive were head scratchers. Imagine if we had punched it in and went into halftime with a 14-10 lead?

Maybe if you watched it in normal speed and consumed some Adult Beverages...……….your game scenario might have been a little clearer.......
Your point or points are lost and misplaced. You can slow mo it to death. We lost and we are going to lose many more. PLEASE, do me a favor and slow mo the Bammer game. Love to see that Analysis. 03f852b3bbe71a2d1c5cbf259ad1e5bb.jpg

I took your advice. Good news is although we started off behind 26 points we played them to a 0-0 tie at the end.

Maybe we should do that for most games in the last 10 years!

1. Will Grier should definitely be a Heisman candidate - some of his throws were PERFECT.
2. Majority of the time we called a corner blitz, we got burned. (2/3 of their TD's)
3. Do really have mediocre CB's? I kept seeing Abernathy and Flowers as CB's.
4. Our SAM LB seem to be on the line too much than I could handle.. it really bothered me for some reason.
5. I honestly couldn't see if Kongbo had many reps cause of the camera angle (maybe he wasn't a factor based on WV offense?)
6. When WV had 3 bunch WR set and we had our MLB alone they 90% called a run play (2 were draws)
7. I honestly can't tell if our defensive scheme just doesn't do well with offense that run 3-4 WR's, or it's our play calling.
8. I felt like we should've Blitzed more.
9. The play where it looked like we had a SPY was where their RB took a wheel route wide open for a TD.
10. Grier seem to know which WR to pass to in every situation. I don't know if we disguised our defense enough.
11. On the offensive side, our TE's need MAJOR work on their blocking. Wolf is better inside, but out in space it's cringe worthy.
12. Why did our OC not call any TE specific plays if our blocking isn't great?
13. At least to me, it felt like we called a lot of the same formation as if we were setting up for the BIG PLAY.
14. Everytime we used some sort of motion we gained yards.
15. This isn't a knock on Tim Jordan, but majority of his big runs were in a specific set where he had a blocker. ISO???
16. I don't think we called a single draw.
17. Helton seems to take awhile to figure out what works best, but somehow goes away from it.
18. Not sure why we didn't have JG roll out more? Or call specific run plays for him.
19. With our current WR roster, I feel like we should have more 3-4 WR sets
20. People complain about our O-line, but I think it's our TE's that are messing it up for us. We need to utilize them as receivers instead.

20...you can't just utilize your tight ends as receivers instead...there is a reason they are called tight ends...mainly for blocking...occasionally as pass here and there
19... We could have passed more but when we did I thought we did pretty well.
18...Why did we need for him to roll out more...we ended up doing fairly well and secondly Pruitt doesn't want his starter and best option injured
17...Should have passed a little more..but we don't have receivers who can stretch the field..thankfully Tim Jordan showed out...
16...can't run draws when the defensive line lives in your backfield
15...aren't you glad for positive yardage....this was like saying JG would never have completed a pass unless he had at least some blocking ahead of him
14...we gained yardage when we didn't have motion
13...?
12...What about the touchdown throw
11...
10..The qb is supposed to know who to throw to...its called a designed play
9.... so what do you mean here
8.... #8 contradicts #2
7.....and you thought we should blitz more ?
6.....formation helped keep corners or lb out of run support...designed to do so
5.....not sure what the scheme was for WV game with our linebackers but it didn't work very well...they seemed rather slow to me...
4.....thats how the coaches decided to call the game...not the LB fault all the time
3....you'll know for sure when we play Florida...may see some different combinations...if the coaches feel the problem is that they haven't played together as a unit in a real game then they may try it again...but if it is a speed problem only coverage can help...i think that was what Pruitt was alluding to in the press conference when he said he it was his fault and he should have helped them more
2...see #8
1....yes

There is the reason he transferred out of BAMA. He knew he would always be a back-up and not a starter. JMO

So in point #2 you make the observation that they scored when we blitzed, but then in point #8 you say we should blitz more? Whats the logic there?

Te doesn’t block the nose. He wrecked havoc the first qtr. just got some work to do. I believe it gets corrected at some point this season.

Our OC should've took a look at what W Va was running and run the same thing when we were on offense. Their CB's are as bad as ours and their pressure was contained after the first three possessions. Line up three WR's and run a draw with Jordan. I think we could've been more successful with a wide open passing game JG is ready for that.

Pretty difficult to take a 4-8 team and turn them into an 8-4 team in what....4 mths of actual practice?!?

This won't happen in One game or One Season for that matter! Patience is difficult but necessary for now!

JMO, Don't Taze me Bro!!
Not with this schedule.

You have an established 8 years veteran, offensive guru as your head coach. It also helps when you have a 5th year senior who has been in the system.

Good observations OP... hope you continue to do this...

On this point “Our SAM LB seem to be on the line too much than I could handle.. it really bothered me for some reason.”.... makes me wonder if we should be running a 3-4 with average talent if the SAM winds up playing one hand down.

On offense, Helton should have screened and drawed till WVU quit penetrating the gaps... we were on our heels the first half with them shooting the gaps. The 3rd and four run play was a bad call, needed a better option there, like a TE pass or flair pass in the flats.

When our CB blitzed, we got burned. I meant blitzing with more LB's not CB's. I felt like our MLB never if ever blitzed or faked a blitz

The more I rewind the tape...Kennedy fixed initial hiccups right immediately....and then it was #70 RT Ryan J. seem to have gotten lost, almost on every other run play.
