thats the true story. thats why he didnt get a severe punishment by the court or chip kelly,
What would you guys do if this happened to you?
No, that's not the true story.
Yes, she went to his house and confronted his new girlfriend. In contrast with your statement, James was not there at the time she showed up. Also in contrast with your statement, the DA report does not implicate her in any sort of break in and neither did James.
The current girlfriend called James, and he drove up. He physically grabbed her in front of the dorm, not in it. AFTER he grabbed her, she grabbed his necklace. It broke in the struggle. James retaliated by shoving her into his car.
She didn't try to take the car keys until he shoved her against his car by "grabbing her collar." This was the infamous choke.
She got loose, escaped to the car, which still had its keys in it and grabbed them and ran from him. Its unclear why she grabbed the keys one could speculate that she was trying to drive away because she was scared, or that she was being vindictive.
Once James had shoved her against the car, any speculating regarding her behavior is attempting to read the mind of someone in a state of fear in an emotionally charged event, and is largely fruitless. What is clear is based upon the DA report, she didn't do anything with the car or keys until James had slammed her against it while holding her neck area, again, in contrast to your statement.
James ran her down and grabbed her again. He took the keys from her after she fell to the ground.
James statement about the incident is as follows:
"I apologize to Heidi both for the incident and everything she has had to go through since it happened," James wrote in a letter March 9, released along with court documents March 12 after his change of plea and sentencing.
"I accept responsibility for my actions," James wrote. "I am also sorry that she has been treated by some people as though she deserved blame for this.] She does not. I ask people to treat her with respect.
She has not done anything wrong."
James plead guilty to harrasment. He got 10 days in jail. He didn't serve it because of overcrowding.
What James should have done is call the cops when the girlfriend was in front of the dorm not leaving. He was wrong the moment he grabbed her. My guess is he
I don't think what he did is nearly close to Rainey at Florida, but he was still way, way, way out of line for putting his hands on her under the circumstances. To his credit, he has admitted that and isn't putting any of the blame on the victim, unlike your post implicating the ex-girlfriend as being responsible for the whole situation.
Yes, she was being a drama queen. That doesn't mean she deserved to get grabbed and physically intimidated by James. Hence the plea down from assualt to harrassment. James did assualt her. He plead down to harrassment by admitting guilt. I have no problem with that, and the system should work that way when the perputrator is cooperative.
However, I am concerned something similar could happen again. That's a comment on the statitics, not on James as a person. Once someone breaks the barrier of laying hands on a woman, regardless of circumstances, that behavior econtinues to escalate over time. I hope it never happens again, and he has a great career and life and this is a mistake in his past.
