o ya he is. i watched it and he kept talking about how the defense played good.......i do realize they were on the field a lot, but unless they turned it over we really couldn't stop them

The defense made the stops they had to to win the game. The offense continually put the defense under the gun in the 2nd half, especially after Ainge's interception. SC only scored 3 points in the final 12 minutes plus overtime.

The defense can't be expected to play well when they only had 6 plays off in the whole 3rd quarter.

 100% AGREE! I wish others would realize this.

That show bores me to tears lately. I've stopped watching to avoid ruining my entire Sunday.

what about the first half? we did get the fumble, and the int. but they still ran where ever they wanted to.

mcfadden scares me

Causing turnovers erases anything they did offensively in the 1st half. Pat them on the back all you want, but that amazing USCe offense spotted UT 21 points.

Prior that meaningless 19-yard run on the last play of the first half, SC only had 127 yards of total offense.

I don't know that the SC offense spotted UT 21 points. The turnover helped, but only 1 UT drive was a gimme. Despite the first possession, which was a 3-and-out, the Vols moved the ball very well in the first half.

UT's first half possessions:
1) 2 yds, punt
2) 46 yds, punt
3) 2 yds, TD
4) 44 yds, TD
5) 72 yds, TD
6) 59 yds, missed FG

As bad as the Vols looked in the 2nd half, they were imho dominant in the first half. I thought the Vols were on their way to applying another whipping like the GA game. And, if the offense puts any drives together in the 2nd half, there is no way that SC could have come back from such a large halftime deficit.

My post was not in any way a knock on the offense in the 1st half.

I agree 100%

and wound up with over 500 yards offense by game's end, so what's your point? call it what it is.

if not for divine intervention we'd all be a lot more pissed off.

spin, spin, spin..........

even tho we won, i feel like we lost. i hate this feeling

I would have felt so much better if we gave up 21 unanswered points in the first half and came back to win 27-24 in OT. A second half collapse never feels like a win, even if you manage to survive it, but a win is a win.

Any spin on how well the defense played should be attached to the idea that USC had scored 0 touchdowns in the previous 6 quarters of play before seeing us.

You can spin. The Vols dominated the first half and that can not be discounted. SC dominated the 2nd half.. which is the only way SC gets back into the game. THE VOLS WON. In the end, the only stat that matters is Tennessee 27, South Carolina 24. Here is the Spin...... This was a home game against the #16 team, against a coach that has a winning record over the Vols, and for 1st place in the SEC-East.

SC has a terrible offense, I think 110th in Div 1. The defense played ok. SC has a good defense though, and shut UT's offense out in the 2nd half. It was good to get a win. Just very surprising to see a Spurrier coached team, with such a lethargic offense.

You know if Fulmer wants to celebrate some with his kids I think that is fine. They were coming off a gut wrenching loss to another SEC rival, and pulling off a sloppy loss like this may have an interesting effect if if builds some confidence. Behind closed doors I'm sure some of the position coaches are going to be chewing ass about the tape.

85th in total offense. The 24 points was 1-point below SC's season average. As bad as they looked against Vandy, SC still scored 38 points in back-to-back wins over Miss State and Kentucky. SC appears to be as up and down on offense as the Vols are on defense.

I know you like details, so I think 14 of those points against UK were from USC's defense. I have no idea about the MSU game.
