Was thinking if we would of got Patterson when Liffin was hired . If the program would be in a better place

I like Dooley, but I'd have to agree. 2 coaches in this amount of time instead of 3 would have been nice.

Continuity goes a long way. I imagine UT would be in a much better position if Dooley was hired then, too.

There's no telling how he would've done. Only this year are we even gonna get to see what he recruits in his own backyard, playing games in his own backyard. He's got a top 50 class (Rivals) right now.

Lost a bunch of talent and an all-world QB in Andy Dalton. I just don't think we'll ever have a way of figuring out if he'd do well here because of the different style of offense and defense.

As I remember Patterson had no interest. Few had interest in UT when Kiffin left. People seem to continually forget that.

Even as anti-Fulmer as I am, you don't fire him to hire a coach from Louisiana Tech. You just don't do that.

I think he has a great coaching mind . Teams play hard for 60 mins . Plus he not scared to pull all the plays out

Oh, there's no way UT would have considered it then. I'm still shocked they did the next time around, frankly.

Patterson expressed no interest in the UT job back then when he was approached.

It was the old, I know I won't get the job, so I will come out before its even offered to me and say I'm not interested move. Happens all the time

All the big name coaches knew Tennessee was a mess and didn't want to ruin their reputation and help rebuild Tennessee. When Dooley gets us back to winning they will line up then.

If he had been 0-20 in Oakland, his resume still easily would have trumped Dooley's.

Not really. Dooley was under Saban in multiple programs. Overhauled a football team and an AD.

The "5-15 record in the NFL" card is way overplayed with Kiffin IMO. I don't like that he shafted us either, but the Raiders were pretty awful when he was hired.....plus you don't have to be the most observant to know that he never had full control of the decision making with that team.

Kiffin repeatedly told Al Davis not to use their #1 overall pick on Jamarcus Russell. Of course Davis didn't listen and set the franchise back several years with one of the worst draft decisions in NFL history.

And you can add hiring Kiffin to the list
