Hey Gang:
So I have been watching Last Chance U, season 2 on Netflix and noticed something last night.

Around episode 6 or so the head coach, Buddy Stephens, makes a reference when talking about his OC, Marcus Wood. Stephens words are "Jones tried to hire him as OC this off season."

At first I thought he might have meant Jones County College. But, a little research showed me that the school was not actively looking for a new OC at that time.

Is it possible the 'Jones' he refers to is our own Butch Jones?
We were in the depths of looking for our OC replacement and EMCC's offensive scheme fits well into Butch's philosophy...they rack up a TON of points and move fast.

Thoughts from the Vols brothers and sisters...???

Anything is possible I guess, but I have hard time seeing a guy turn down SEC ball in favor of JUCO coaching. I also have a hard time seeing us getting that far down the list. CBJ may have offered him a spot, but I doubt it was OC.

June Jones perhaps? I seem to remember he got hired back as a head coach this year but can't remember where.

Zero chance it was in reference to Butch Jones...ZERO. We would never fill a high profile position from a juco.

LOL There would have been riots if Butch hired a 3rd rate OC from a junior college in MI Crooked Letter. Thats hilarious.

There are stepping stones in the coaching world. You don't go from JUCO OC to the OC of a major D1 program. JUCO to D3, D2, FCS---yeah that makes sense. It's pretty rare for JUCO coaches to even move up to the D1 ranks, the exceptions being the former collegiate or pro players.

Last I read Marcus Wood stepped into an administrative role at EMCC...

Pretty sure he meant Mike Jones. He mentioned that back then they didn't want him, but now that he's hot they're all on him.

He meant Jones County. Just because they were not actively looking does not mean the didn't put out feelers. Trust me if Tennessee or any other D1 or hell d2 school had made an offer coach wood wouldn't have been thinking about it he would be gone.

Funny enough last December he was rumored to be a candidate for OC at Ole Miss. But it was just rumor/hype from the TV show. No way in the world an SEC coach seriously considers a JC coach for a coordinator position. Position coach maybe.. but even then not likely.
