With all the negativity about our team on the board lately, I felt like watching the last year's game in the swamp to refresh my memory about how things went down. It's available on YouTube if you're interested.

While it was painful to bear witness to the whole game again, I think the following messages could be taken from that game:

(1) Tennessee was clearly the "better" team. Yeah I know the score ultimately determines things, but watching this game, Tennessee really dominated Florida in almost every facet of the game.

(2) Dobbs didn't do much in the first three games prior to the Florida game in 2015, but was an absolute Beast in the swamp.. Debord unleashed him on so many running plays... Florida could just not stop him.

(3) Tennessee's offensive line pretty much dominated the Florida defensive line throughout the game. All that's missing from last year's game is Kerby at LT. And yes, Kendrick at RT even got beat pretty bad at right tackle but adjusted well during the game. Despite injuries to Hall and Thomas, I think our offensive line is actually a bit deeper than it was last year.

(4) Our offense pummeled their line running the ball straight up the middle. Both Dobbs and Hurd were just tearing up their line and gashing them. We had over 250 yards rushing, while leading up to the game Florida had averaged giving up only 47 yards running per game.

(5) Florida lacked - and still lacks - a go to star on offense. The points they scrapped for last year were, honestly, mostly a function of their remarkable 4th down plays.

(6) Our D line kept the Gator running game shut down - and this is with Maggitt out for the 2015 game. This year's line is even stronger with minimal losses, development of KMac, O'Brien, Tuttle and Vickers, plus the addition of Kongbo.

(7) Jumper was a starting LB last year in this game. Kirkland was out. Yes, the LB position is thin, but it held well by and large last year. Injuries are part of the game, so no need to make excuses before a single snap is taken.

(8) The team played a very clean game technically... one turnover, just one or two penalties.

(9) DeBord called a great game, and two well-timed trick plays worked great - a double throw to Jennings then back to Dobbs, and a jump pass by Kamara.

(10) 4th down KILLED us. The Gators were 5 for 5 including two successful attempts in their final drive. Conversions on 4th and 7, 4th and 8, 4th and 14... unbearable to watch again, and probably reason #1 why Shoop is now our DC.

All in all, while seeing the loss was bad, it has just reaffirmed my belief that:

(A) Tennessee has more talent on the field;
(B) DeBord like last year has called conservative gameplay to date this year, but will let Dobbs run wild this Saturday; and
(C) I HATE the Gators and believe that Tennessee will not only beat them this Saturday and break the stupid curse, but also that our team will FINALLY, FINALLY smack the living pajeezus out of these arrogant, smack-talking boys in a good ole fashion butt whoopin.

Tennessee 38 - Florida 17

I don't even know where to start on what all you typed. Jumper stated the game but was pulled after he gave up the long run to set up UF's 1st TD. We had to use trick plays to score. Their secondary completely shut down our passing game. At the end of the game when we had the lead all we needed was 1 1st down to win and the O-line couldn't deliver. We had costly turnovers. Out final 2 minute drill looked like something out of a Benny Hill skit. That kick broke Medley, he should have never been asked to kick a 50 yard (whoops, flag on the play before the biggest kick since 2013 SCAR) a 55 yard field goal.

Tennessee 38 - Florida 17

This is a defense that is riding high coming off a game where they allowed 53 total yards. 53

The aren't struggling to execute game plans or even worse struggling against inferior opponents.

The pass rush is there against a putrid Tennessee offensive line but the addition of Hall helps a lot.

While I agree Tennessee has a D line filled with talent they only registered 3 sacks through 3 weeks against lesser and often smaller teams. Im suppose to buy that it will magically be consistent and disrupt Florida enough to throw them off their game?

Jumper had a solid game this past week but he still lacks the abilities to not only tackle but cover in space. This is well known not only by the coaches but Florida as well.

The back end of the defense is a mess. Mosley is a question mark. No Cam and there is a lot of finger pointing that's usually not an issue in past years.

I really truly hope that The team from last year shows up and shows out but at this point I cant see it the work prior to this game proves that.

Ouch. Maybe we should all watch Rudy, Hoosiers, and the Mighty Ducks. I still have hope! GBO!

So based on what happened over 350 days ago, that means UT wins on Saturday. Got it.

Ignore all of the flaming OP, your observations are spot on. We were 100% the better team on the field.

Our offensive play calling was genius and kept their defense guessing for the majority of the game.

The problem was, we got a comfortable lead. Comfortable leads are Butch'a kryptonite. As usual, when he saw we had a decent lead, he went straight to the team medical staff and had them surgically remove his balls (even though he just had them reattached after removing them for the Oklahoma game).

When we went to "Hurd up the middle, Hurd up the middle, Hurd up the middle, punt" and resorted to his famous "run the clock and play field position" technique, we lost.

We lose/win this game by coaching. Just like last year.

So the problems lie outside the boundaries of the field? That makes me feel better if the game is close.

Rewatching this now, and Kendrick got lit up the whole 1st quarter. The o-line could not stop the outside rush at all.

I bet this is how the first quarter play out on Saturday. Florida will start explosive and then get tired and slow down just enough for misdirection plays to take a toll.

I wonder if CMD has a trick play like the throw to Dobbs up his sleeve again. Man that was beautiful to watch again. They have to unleash Dobbs to win.

2. Dobbs ran the ball 12, 14, and 4 times against BG, Oklahoma, and Western Carolina respectively. He also had 7 TDs in those first 3 games.

5. They have Antonio Callaway who is an absolute stud.

7. He played. In fact, Kirkland had 5 tackles and 1 sack that game. Jumper didn't even have stats @ Florida according to ESPN.
Darrin Kirkland Jr. Game By Game Stats and Performance - Tennessee Volunteers - ESPN
Colton Jumper Game By Game Stats and Performance - Tennessee Volunteers - ESPN

Thanks for your analysis and I enjoyed reading! Go Vols!

watching the last 5 minutes of that game makes me nauseous, sweat, and shake uncontrollably. Should I see a physician?

That's why when I was at the VT game in Bristol when they were up 14-0 I said, "Thank goodness we are not ahead, there is still hope".
