ok, well I watched about half of it through bits and pieces. Still, here's what I think based upon what I saw and how it will apply Friday night.
Offensively
-Ohio State has three guys in Lighty, Buford and Turner who can drive and shoot very well. All three are very dangerous.
-Turner is the best passer of the three. While the other two seem to drive to score, Turner will find the open man cutting or spottin up.
-Michigan doubled Turner after crossing half court a number of times and forced him to pick up his dribble. Seemed fairly effective in the second half.
-Keep them off the offensive glass!! Michigan boxed out poorly on a few occasions. The trio listed above are quick to get to balls.
-Diebler has a nice ability to find a spot on the perimeter where you lose him for just a second. Needless to say, don't lose him at all, and stay in his grill, force him to drive.
-Lauderdale seems to be in there because they are required to have five players and someone setting picks.
-Michigan basically let OSU walk the ball up for most of the game, which I think is a mistake. We don't necessarily need to press, but at least make Turner work the whole game.
Defensively
-OSU played straight man the times I watched. I'm sure it had a lot to do with Michigan's personel.
-The Buckeyes played very nice help and positional defense. There was not a lot of gambling on steals and attempted blocked shots. They stole some entry passes, but it was a very active defense where they moved their feet well and didn't put themselves in poor postions very much.
-They aggressively trap on the wings and in the corner, using their length and athleticism. Someone like Scotty can not get caught in this situation and then throw lazy or panicked passes.
-They also quickly trap on the low post. See above for Brian Williams.
-Michigan didn't have the ability to slash to the basket (They hit a bunch of threes in the 2nd to come back from a ten point defecit) except for Manny Harris, so I think we will be better here. OSU will reach and get some fouls, if you can start getting to the basket.
Anyway, those were just some of the things I saw in the game the second time I've seen it, with a little more interested viewing. I took from it that OSU is a very strong team, but not overly explosive like a Kentucky. However, it didn't seem that they would beat themselves, which shows why they have been so steady this year.
