ok, well I watched about half of it through bits and pieces. Still, here's what I think based upon what I saw and how it will apply Friday night.

Offensively

-Ohio State has three guys in Lighty, Buford and Turner who can drive and shoot very well. All three are very dangerous.

-Turner is the best passer of the three. While the other two seem to drive to score, Turner will find the open man cutting or spottin up.

-Michigan doubled Turner after crossing half court a number of times and forced him to pick up his dribble. Seemed fairly effective in the second half.

-Keep them off the offensive glass!! Michigan boxed out poorly on a few occasions. The trio listed above are quick to get to balls.

-Diebler has a nice ability to find a spot on the perimeter where you lose him for just a second. Needless to say, don't lose him at all, and stay in his grill, force him to drive.

-Lauderdale seems to be in there because they are required to have five players and someone setting picks.

-Michigan basically let OSU walk the ball up for most of the game, which I think is a mistake. We don't necessarily need to press, but at least make Turner work the whole game.

Defensively

-OSU played straight man the times I watched. I'm sure it had a lot to do with Michigan's personel.

-The Buckeyes played very nice help and positional defense. There was not a lot of gambling on steals and attempted blocked shots. They stole some entry passes, but it was a very active defense where they moved their feet well and didn't put themselves in poor postions very much.

-They aggressively trap on the wings and in the corner, using their length and athleticism. Someone like Scotty can not get caught in this situation and then throw lazy or panicked passes.

-They also quickly trap on the low post. See above for Brian Williams.

-Michigan didn't have the ability to slash to the basket (They hit a bunch of threes in the 2nd to come back from a ten point defecit) except for Manny Harris, so I think we will be better here. OSU will reach and get some fouls, if you can start getting to the basket.

Anyway, those were just some of the things I saw in the game the second time I've seen it, with a little more interested viewing. I took from it that OSU is a very strong team, but not overly explosive like a Kentucky. However, it didn't seem that they would beat themselves, which shows why they have been so steady this year.

I hope they double Brian all day. He's a solid passer and can find the open man. If they do, we should be able to make them pay.

This is true and caused me to laugh. I can't wait for Jared Sullinger and DeShaun Thomas to get to Columbus next year. It will be great to have solid inside and outside presence.

They'd be crazy to double Brian Williams. If they watch 30 seconds of tape, they're going to see that he can't score with his back to the basket. He basically exclusively scores off of offensive rebounding.

I also think someone will be on Turner from the moment the ball is inbounded.

Lauderdale played horribly during the big10 tournament...pretty sure madsen got more minutes because of it.

I think the Illinois game they did a better job of frustrating turner with pressure and double teams if you want a reference (even though he ended with 31, 10 of that was in OT).

I think it's a matter of that's OSU's philosohy to do so. Those Michigan posts were no better than Williams and they still doubled down low. I would imagine they double little Pearl as well because that's just what they do. They obviously want the ball on the perimeter to suit their defensive strengths.

I see. That makes sense. This seems like a game that we can get tons of second chance points if we will drive the ball at the basket consistently.

Yeah, I forgot to put that part in as well. There is an opportunity to hit the offensive boards if we take advantage of it.

Did you get a look at their 1-3-1?

I was waiting for it, but they never played it during the Michigan game, or at least not the parts I watched. I have to think it was because they were simply better than Michigan and the Wolverines didn't have the post presence to hurt them.

1-3-1 and we didn't play it during the big10 torney, at least not much. The tech game was the most we had used it recently I think.

I imagine this was to combat the posts of GT. I would expect to see you use this quite a bit against us. Hopefully, we'll be prepared.

Does anybody think Bruce is gonna have Chism on Diebler because of his length?

I hope not. I just think Wayne on the perimeter all game will take away from the rebounding presence we need as well as put him in an uncomfortable position he hasn't played all year.

For me, I would say change out Tatum for Williams in the starting five. Stick JP on Turner, Scotty/Bobby on Buford/Lighty, Tatum on Diebler and Wayne on Lauderdale, ready to help on the drive.

This would just be putting Chism in a situation to fail. He doesn't defend the wing routinely. It would also probably cause him to pick up a couple of cheap fouls reaching because he doesn't typically guard the wing.

Great scouting report.

I am very interested in what Pearl has assembled both offensively and defensively. Should be a heck of a game... GO VOLS!!!

Bottom line. We win... they lose....

the outcome of the game has nothing to do with ohio states offense. our defense has been great most of the year and will hold these guys under 40% shooting. ther defense is good but all we have to do is pound it into the post and get them in early foul trouble and they are toast. they will lose their aggresiveness and prince and company can take it to the hole all day long. biran williams is a key here as he has to establish position and take it to the hole. lauderdale will foul and while he is not great offensively he blocked 8 shots in the first tourney game and can be disruptive. once he is gone madsen can do nothing to stop our inside game. the only way we lose is if we start jacking 3's. we play the best switching man to man defense in the field and unless we forget to use chism and williams we are headed to the final four.
