Remind me what was on track with our 7 - 6 season under Kiffin and a recruiting class which couldn't be considered Top Ten anymore (especially with the arrests)? Does anyone here truly believe Fulmer would have done worse? If so, this truly is the site for 14-year old Vol fans. Seriously, are we really looking at his average Fulmer recruiting class and a handful of "moral victories" as being on track?? No way we go undefeated in Year Two of Kiffin as Saban did at Bama.

Here is the only (good) legacy of the Kiffin "era": he stuck behind Crompton, made him a potent SEC QB, and allowed him to leave TN as other than the most reviled Vol in recent memory. However, I think Clawson would have had him turned around BEFORE Q4 of the Auburn game. JMHO. And this could have been a heckuva year if he does get him around in Spring.

Do we really think we had a Great One in Kiffin (I mean the conventional Volnation wisdom BEFORE the betrayal)? When Fulmer took over from Majors (I know most of you don't remember this) there was a clear upgrade on the field overall and in recruiting. There was a clear upgrade, even though the last years of Majors were among the most exciting. We had some "moral victories" this year, but I certainly didn't see a clear upgrade.

Just wanted to get this out before moving on. I think Hammy might have stumbled upon a diamond in Derek Dooley. A blind squirrel can pick up an acorn.

Yea it was for being his first year. He recruited well, did ok in the season, and had another great class coming in. So i'm gonna say yes, don't get me wrong i hate him just as much as you. I'm just not letting my hate for him right now come out in what i say, about his coaching and how well he had done.

I totally lost all respect when you said Fulmer would have done as good of a job. I don't see Fulmer bringing in Bryce Brown & Janzen Jackson, a crappy kicker away from beating Bama, and a 7-6 record with two walk-on O-Lineman.

I think we were on our way to becoming a pretty good football team. Outside the Ole Miss game we really closed the season strong, but the Peach Bowl was pretty bad, we got exposed badly in that game. I think the reason everyone really bought into X was because of the recruiting, he brought in a top 10 class last year and was headed for a top 5 finish this year. I think if CDD can recruit well he will have us where we need to be.

Fulmer would have atleast TRIED to beat Florida and Virginia Tech this year. Something that Hollywood didnt.

You are soooooooo right. I mean, going for the endzone on that 4 & 5 with three minutes to go was conceding the game.

Yep...it's time o move on. the Lame Train has left and it's now USC's problem. As to what could've been...well it really doesn't matter anymore.

We have a new train now..The DD Express. May not have the fancy paint job, the well know name(s), allot of bragging and allot of money. It's fairly new, straight shooter, respectful, been around the right people and right places, pretty smart, level headed and humbled.

There was nothing on track as far that as that sorry excuse for a coach was concerned. It is time to move on and quit talking about that train wreck.

History suggests Fulmer would have beaten Bama this year. Just saying. I think Kiffin could have - if he were a better coach. I begin to wonder if the personal pedestal Kiffin's on is one of the reason Tim Priest knew Lincoln was hurt, but the HC didn't......

I think Fulmer's crew brought in Eric Berry and more talent than even Pete Carroll has had at USC. We may lament he did less with more (and I have lamented that too), but if you don't see Fulmer bringing in talent, well, you missed most of the last 17 years, son.

Hahahahahahahaha oh man... this is too good. Keep this stuff coming.

All that history suggests is that Fulmer should've been fired long before he was.

Whatever Clawson learned in Year One at TN, it didn't do him any harm in Year One at Bowling Green.

JC was in EXACTLY the same place he was as a junior when he started his senior season under Kiffin. Again, further proof of no real upgrade from Fulmer during the coach's roughest period at TN.

I liked CPF and most of his time at UT. That said, it was time to move in a different direction. He had nothing left to prove and it showed the last few years, on the field and in recruiting classes. Had he stayed for 2009 we would have been lucky for another 5 -7 year. Yes, that sorry sob coach of 2009 did help UT on the field and with what he left on the roster.
I think CDD is an upgrade as a coach and a human over X and glad we got him.

Are you sure you aren't the 14-year-old posting on this site? Some of the worst logic that I have ever seen on this board.

What the hell are you talkin about? History suggest what? That Fulmer had lost to Saban/Bama by a combined 70-20 the last two years? I mean, are you really that blind? History suggests Fulmer would have won? Oh my...

And tell me what Kiffin did wrong in the Bama game. He led us to a 44-yard FG to win...What, put in a walk-on for his first career kick to win the game? Really?

And obviously you are either a teenager and didn't have the chance, or you just chose not to watch football on Saturday or Sunday the last 20 years.

Tennessee has had the talent always. We can lament only one Championship during that time (but seriously, would Carroll have more than one championship if he played in the SEC during the great run he has had????)

I have no clue what you're even talking about. Kiffin completely changed Crompton and was able to adapt his offense to Crompton's strengths. That was something Clawson was not able to do.

Awesome...So you are saying Clawson leads Crompton to become an NFL draft pick? Oh man, you are awesome....

Is that why Fulmer left us with so many bad O-Lineman that we had to start the Sullins twins?
