Was the Florida game a good measure for the Vols?

I think the team learned a lot that Sunday evening into Monday about themselves, and has moved on in two weeks learning on what they did wrong in that game. They’ve really picked up their mistakes here recently, and carried off on a brand new way it seems like, doesn’t?

I do not think that was a good game for us. there were a few key plays that we missed that we haven't these last two weeks haven't. I think the moment was a little to big for the young guys but I think with this momentum and confidence I think we would have a much closer game with them.

We didn't have a good second half against UF, they didn't have aa good game at Kentucky.

Thought we should have tried FG instead of going for a 4 and 5 at the 30. Long FG, yes. Might have changed the game a bit but Jones just had a great 2nd half.

Winning on the road is a difficult task in the SEC. Florida and Alabama learned that and so has Texas A&M, just to name a few. Ole Miss will hopefully learn that once again this weekend. Our Crowd has got to shut them down. I hope they cannot even communicate in the huddle or the sidelines This will make a difference in the outcome of the game. Kentucky will be a tough game for us but I think we will survive it. My best thought is to beat Georgia at Home with the Crowd noise and make it difficult for them to run their offense.

We brought the typical mess of boneheaded critical mistakes, missed opportunities and self-destruction we always bring to the Florida game. Not as many whoppers this time, but enough to lose. Wasn't a complete implosion.

I hate both our losses this year. Last years team would have laid down fast and they’d be done.

This team has fight. I do think those losses helped them feel something that they did not like and I think this staff used film to show them they could have won against Pitt for sure and maybe Florida had they not made critical errors.

You’ll always learn more from a mistake than a success but success sure feels better.

They’ve grown a lot as a team. Connecting on the splash plays has been huge. Lots of open plays in both Pitt and Florida we
didn’t connect on that could have made a difference.

Imho, our lack of depth really reared it's ugly head and bit us in the arse for the second half of the FL game , more than anything else.

That game is a good measure of where this team could be if they don't play a good game. It's also a measure of what could be if they avoid those mistakes. We all could see it. UT had a chance to be in that game, but a couple of mistakes knocked them out of it.

It's all about perspective and being willing and capable of learning from the mistakes.

I hate to set myself up like this, but I have a good feeling about the Vols this weekend. They have been much improved lately and if they continue, they have a good chance at being on top at the end of this game.

This is a maturing team. I like and support Heupel. I support the decision he made on the information he had at the time. But.... if Hooker had won the QB job in August then Pitt would have been a win and UF would have been a game. As HH gets more comfortable, this O gets faster and more effective.

He's definitely reacting and responding more now instead of thinking and hesitating. No way for coaches or players to be prepared game 1 after having MASSIVE roster turnover coupled w TOTAL staff turnover.

I always wished we could flip Vandy and Florida every year. It would have been great to see how we go at the end of the season with a mature QB, OL, RBs DL LB corp all at the top of their game.

I just don't think results like that can be assessed week-to-week. I think that is part of what makes college football fun. Texas A&M, for example. Everyone had written them off for the year after losing at home to Miss. State, barely beating Colorado and losing to Arkansas. Well, all it took was Alabama playing sloppy one Saturday for that same TAMU team to beat the #1 team in the country. I would say the same thing about the UF game. UT is not the same team as that night, and they might not be that team tomorrow, either.

In one way, yes. In another, no. In yet another, too soon to tell. Yes- being that was the first sign that the O could get open and score against SEC teams and the D was actually in the right spot at the snap. Both something Cornbread’s teams could never really do. No- the game was more competitive than the score. A single, routine pass dropped on 4th down minutes later resulted in a 17 point deficit vs a potential 3 pt game in the 2nd half. On the “too soon to tell’ - I felt the team rolled over after the quick FL TD following the 4th down drop. I hope they turned the corner because they haven’t been in that situation since. I sure hope we don’t, but if we do tonight, I hope they respond better. With our offense, a 17 pt deficit is no longer insurmountable. Above all, the Florida game gave me hope. The loss sucked as it always does, but there were a lot of bright spots and things to build on. For the first in a while, we actually did build on them as we moved forward.

I don’t think we’re anything like that now . The simple fact we seem to be perfecting the hurry up offense is one improvement IMO.
