Was Saturday a lesson to the team?

I cant help but notice how much Pruitt was dogging the team because of poor practice this week and how they were unprepared mentally all week, as well as after the game. While i know he didnt dream up some master plan to make the fumbles happen and cause the penalties, i really believe he intended to make this a final learning experience before this week of practice before florida. I think thats why we saw some of the clock running out and not many attempts to pass and score in the second half. I think he wanted the team to not have a big scoring game like they did last week because it made them sloppy and over lethargic during last weeks practice. In my opinion this was a move by pruitt to humble the team in a controlled environment to mentally prepare them to fight harder in practice and sec play.

Said no coach ever.

You play like you practice. In what small clips we have been shown of practice everything is very low energy. But I am sure it was just a smokescreen for the media.....

Maybe, but he wants the team to have confidence eating the clock when they get a lead.

i don’t believe anything like that. At this level you use momentum to your advantage and to try not to score, or even be ok with not scoring would fly in the face of just that.
I do believe we played very well despite the points. We put up a lot of offense and defensively held them to little. For all of those saying we are a mess and Georgia is where we want to be I question how you see us. We had significantly more offensive production than Georgia and gave up far less than they did. There are those that will argue well we played the worst team in the country and they played...well a team who doesn’t compare to them. Is one of the top three teams in the country playing a small, unranked school really much different than an unranked rebuilding team coming off a 4-8 season playing UTEP?
What I saw yesterday was a good step. Fix the mental errors and it’s a much bigger step. Those will be addressed over time. I’m confident in that.
Are we gonna beat the Georgia’s and Alabama’s this year? Of course not but with continuous improvement our odds improve against the marginal games that can make or break our season.

Yeah, stop with the low energy BS. You probably shouldn’t comment on things you clearly don’t understand.

What im saying is JG only attempted 6 passes in the second half. We werent trying to score 40 or 50 points by that point in the game. I think he was upset with the penalties and other mistakes we made and didnt want the score to show a huge 40 or 50 to 0 win which would make the penalties and turnovers seem irrelevant. I think he wanted it close where the team couldnt be content with the game and force them to try harder. Avoiding the "rat poison" if you will..

I think Tennessee is actually WORSE than many of you want to believe. Let's hope more is gained in improvement THIS week. Saturday night will be a real test of Prep and in-game execution.*

*just like the 1st 3 weeks were

I think it served more as a lesson to the fans. Don't expect much this season. Treat it like we're an expansion team in its inaugural season and anticipate better seasons ahead. This season is one giant mulligan.

Why were we chewing clock on a team that couldnt even get close to scoring then? It seemed like tennessee just wanted to get out of there before the half and after.

We only sustained 2 drives against utep man. 2 drives, 10 points. The other 2 scores were very short drives, 1 was 1 play, the other was 3. And thats not just a half, thats the whole game. So no, i dont think its a disguise, we are simply not good.

We left a bunch of points on the field yesterday through our own mistakes.
Pass rush wasn't awful, but that wasn't a SEC o-line either.
Ty broke a long one yesterday due, in part, to an excellent block on the edge by our fb. Still, is his speed truly breakaway against SEC DBs?
Some really good down field blocking by WRs.
Not sure the chop block was intentional or caused by the initial angle taken by the d-lineman.
Only remember one 'Icky shuffle' behind the LOS which was a pleasant change.

Bottom line, now we get a real look at how we can compete with teams that recruit the same talent pool we do. I know we don't have near the numbers of P5, potential NFL players as the middle half of our schedule, but the next six games will give us a base line of the current state of the program. I doubt it will be pretty, but I also doubt we'll see most of the team quit as they appeared to do last year. My hopes are high, unlike my expectations.

If he was just trying to get out of there, why on earth did he run onto the field after UTEP’s third down play to call time out and preserve clock? It was a boneheaded decision to put Chryst in the game in that situation but JP wasn’t intentionally trying to hold the score down to prove a point. That would be stupid on so many different levels.

We are just going to have to admit that this team is not good.

We will be up for Florida. Not sayin we will win but we will give them a game. And I like where we are headed in the future power football. It's old school and I love it!

I believe this is the cold hard reality that most people are finally going to realize after Saturday.
