Was Jackson's hit clean?

Did Janzen Jackson show all out effort to help win or did he make a "thuggish" play?

When he launced to make the great play as he did he left his head down a little late thats why he got the penalty PLEASE READ ALL OF MY POST BEFORE YOU ANSWER ME!

Sometimes I wonder how some of you actually manage to put your pants on in the morning.

His head had to be in a downward angle to avoid hitting him with his head. This stuff is not that hard. I'm speechless.

Needs to lose his spot just because of that bone head play. Make his a$$ work to earn it back all off season to show him how stupid of a play that was.

Somebody needs to lose their spot in Volnation for a boneheaded post! If you work really hard in 2011, keeping Neyland clean and what not, we will let you come back in 2012.

should we agree that JJ will be the official scapegoat for this one...I thought for sure we would award it to Bray and the interceptions or the defense as a whole...I mean that was UNC...

no, lincoln shoulders the blame for that. never seen a kicker lose as many games as that guy. WTF....he needed a sports psychologist in the worst way. Too late now.

It's big 10 refs dude, they done the same crap at vandy when they played northwestern earlier this season!!!!! BS BS BS BS BS BS BS!!!!!!!

And as far as 'launching', I'll need a link. As far as I know, youre allowed to leave your feet to make a tackle. It happens a hundred times a game, every game.

This. And I'm agreeing with a guy that called me a WIldcat fan while ago, I'm so passionate about this!

I really really really HATE UK, though.

I'm over this crap! The game has been dumbed down and diluted to the point it's become flag football. No catch and no personal foul! I'm not mad about UT losing but the refs were terrible. How could the head linessman call the game over and then it wasn't?

It's actually the right statement. The act of launching is what drew the flag, not the form of contact. Launching is just that. Launching. These rules, albeit dumb IMO, are in place to protect the players. It's a new world. These types of hits are not allowable anymmore. Right, wrong or indifferent, it is what it is.

This is not true. No where in the definition of a personal foul does it state that if a player leaves his feet that it constitutes an automatic penalty.

The personal foul as it is written is highly subjective. It leaves the interpretation of events to the referee. The rule is in place to restrict dangerous play or safety-related activity. Meaning, if the ref deems that a player had intent to harm or injure a given opponent then a penalty is warranted.

In this case, the ref deemed that JJ's hard tackle to be an issue of safety to the UNC player. This is what we should argue. Was it JJ's intent to risk the safety of the UNC player? Watching the replay several times, it is my opinion that JJ's intent was not solely to harm the UNC player. He did not make contact with his own head nor the head of the UNC player. He did not go low and submarine the UNC player. In fact, he hit him in the mid section which subsequently caused the UNC player to lose control of the ball -- which is pretty much the goal, aside from completing a given tackle, for every dender approaching a ball carrier.

It is my opinion that the flag was thrown for the simple fact that JJ has a reputation and the ref saw "enough" to decide that the JJ's tackle was across the line of being regarded as a "safe play".

Let's let them wear skirts and high heels and it must be 2 hand touch for a tackle. It's football for crying out loud. What would they do if Doug Atkins played he jumped over players. Now that is a launch!!

We can agrue about this all night but the fact is he got a penalty for it and I agreed from the moment it happened even though I thought it was a great play and effort from his part.

was football.. I think you meant to say. Before this year it WAS football. These penalties are changing that.

Do agree these rules are the best of the game. Was watching ESPN Classic and saw a hit and said to myself it this was a game now that would be a penalty.

Love JJ. I loved the hit. IMO I think he led with his shoulder. The kid's a player, but you could definitely tell that the missed practices hurt him. He was out of assignment on consecutive plays throughout the game and just made some poor decisions. The kid can/will do big things, I'm talking like 1st or 2nd rd in Draft, if he gets his head on straight and matures a little bit. I love JJ and appreciate like hell some of the things he does for us, but he does have some maturing to do.
